dealer gave me me a cash for clunkers loaner car!!!
your thoughts please...... i was told i had to make an appointment a week and a half ahead of time because i am requeasting for a loaner car.... so i did, and the day befor my appointment i gave them a call to conferm. only to be told that they are out of loaner cars but worse case will get you in an enterprize renta car..... so i said fine. day of my appointment i was told that enterprize was all out of cars.... and they gave me this cash for clunkers....wtf! they showed me from afar, didn't look to bad. After signing some papers regarding insurance. they handed me the keys. filthy interior. looked like they transported hay in the back seat, glove compartment doesn't shut, seats are stained, mantainance light on, windows dirty with writing on the back window.

I'd strip that car of any salvageable components starting with that kenwood head unit and then sell them on fleabay.. lol.. why not, they're going to crush it anyways. Take the wheels too.. put some donuts on it and return it..

Cash For Clunkers gave a rebate of up to $4500 towards a new car, and that's if the new car got significantly better mileage than the older one. This car isn't even that old, and someone would pay more than $4500. So it's either someone's rental, or it was dumped by cash for clunkers by an idiot.

That's a sweet install on the Kenwood head unit...is that Kleenex shoved into the space around it to keep it from moving?

How did that car even qualify for cash for clunkers? Nothing the acura dealer sells gets the at minimum 10mpg higher rating than that car (which i know gets 30mpg+ hwy).

Keep Right Except to Pass
Mileage is not determinative of "clunker" status. My question is, why does it have standard plates on it instead of dealer plates? Whoever traded it in, if it really were a cash for clunkers car, should have kept the plates (and the dealer should have removed them and disposed of them if the former owner didn't want to keep them). The dealer probably hasn't re-titled the car properly.

My dealer uses standard plates on all their loaner cars. And, yes, mpg does determine whether or not you are eligible for cash for clunkers.
OP-Call ACS and tell them that your dealer gave you a scum nugget car as a loaner.

As some have mentioned there is no way a new generation Grand Prix would qualify for cash for clunkers. That is not a cash for clunkers car end of story.
That car gets better fuel economy than our TL's and is 2006 or newer I would presume.
Looks like it was just some normal trade in that was dirty and has not gone through the dealers cleaning yet for sale.

It's a free loaner. Get it washed, drive it and be glad it's not yours!
That's no Clunker, we just like our TL's better cause we are spoiled.

the dealer is NOT required to GIVE/get you a loaner car- they have x amount of cars and will rent from Enterprise if needed
If you dropped off on friday thats why- a lot of people drop off friday with small jobs to get a free loaner- NEW- car for some trip or purpose
If you need a sparkling new car for an event you should drive the TL or rent a car like other people do!
CFC Cars turned in may not be resold- nothing says the plates have to come off that day! In ca the plates stay with a car until its ready for destruction
The cars dont go to the crusher until the dealer gets clear paperwork from dmv, then it goes to the wrecker yard to be picked clean of HID/halogen light bulbs and certain switches that contaminate the earth--all that has to be documented for the Feds too!
The dealer needs to keep the car until the feds agree to pay for it as well= and they are slow as usual
Nothing says it cant be a shop car if needed for a day- just cant be resold/registered again
Many acura dealers have same owner of honda next door, the car could have gone there as a trade in and acura borrowed in an emergency to keep you with wheels

I am in no way saying I am a fan of the base model Grand Prix's, however I will say I do like the newer GXP's with the 300+ HP LS4 V8. My dad has one and man that thing sure sounds good. The torque steer is insane compared to my 07 TL-S. Sure would be cool to drop that LS4 into the TL since the GXP is front wheel drive as well.
Speaking of the GXP I wonder how that car performs compared to the 07/08 TL-S. Anyone know?

It's a driver's race as between the Grand Prix GXP and TL/TL-S.

I don't think OP got a GXP, although he did get the aftermarket stereo and self-opening glove compartment.

Racer
Cash for Clunkers car has to be a 2001 or older and get less than 18mpg combined city/hwy that car is atleast a 2004 and gets better than 18mpg.
It sucks but suck it up. If you want something nicer just pay and rent a car.

0-60 and quarter-mile are really close to the '04-'07 TL 6M, which is probably a tenth or two slower than the TL-S. See http://www.albeedigital.com/supercou...0-60times.html

Dunno about this not being that bad or that they are not required to give you a loaner. From a luxury dealer, this simply sucks.
Good thing not all dealerships are this way. I bet this one does not really care about repeat business. What dealership is this?

I think this is f*ing hilarious, that's truly bad service if you followed their protocol of making an appointment, and they still throw you a cash for clunker.
