So I'm sure many of you guys have seen or heard about this today. My heart goes out to the families of the two females that died. Not exactly sure what happened but rumors say that a biker was doing stunts and cut her off and she lost control of the car. They say that they were on their way to some car show in New Jersey. This is so sad. We all need to remember that no matter what you drive, you need to respect everyone else around. Everyone knows that now the nice weather is here and there will be plenty of people trying to enjoy it. So please be careful and respect others no matter what they are driving..
Damn. Those poor people. And that poor TL. This is really close to me. I drive in New Jersey every day for work. Some people can be extremely dangerous even if you are being overly cautious.
You wouldnt believe the guy that cut me off the other day. 15ft from a stop sign he juts in front of me giving me about 1ft to come to complete stop. No signal use whatsoever. Cuts two more people off. Then proceeds to go around everyone at the stop using using the right turn lane at a red light. Stops for a second and THEN goes right through the red light. So reckless.
I just read about this earlier. There were a ton of souped up cars headed to a meetup or race or something like that. Then I saw this photo on ABC news... (warning, somewhat graphic). Is that a guardrail going THROUGH the TL?

Yes. Theres a photo of her body on the ground next to it covered and you can clearly see the guard rail through the car. I'm assuming she got tossed out of it since there weren't any stains on it that could be seen in the inside of the vehicle.
Yeah saw this on the local news here in PA. to the victims.
Investigation still underway. Trying to get some info from my friends in NJ law enforcement.
Why did OP fault bikers when none of the articles I've read even mention any motorcycles? They say a white GS300 struck the TL. Lexus was driven by 2 men 22 and 19 who are at the hospital along with the back passenger of the TL who has been released from the hospital already.

New Jersey State Police said Sunday they have identified the driver and passenger killed in a morning multi-vehicle pileup on I-295 in East Greenwich Township.
Three other people were injured in the 8:22 a.m. crashes.
State police Sgt. First Class Gregory Williams said Jasmine Gonzalez, 22, of Pennsauken Township was driving southbound in the left lane in a gray Acura with her friend, Nkemjika Anyim, 22, of Berlin, N.J. and Alicia Leyman, 23, of Gloucester City when they were struck by a white Lexus traveling southbound in the center lane.
Police say the Lexus spun out of control for unknown reasons, causing the Acura to strike and be pinned beneath a guard rail.
Gonzalez and Anyim were dead at the scene. Leyman, a back-seat passenger, was taken to Cooper University Medical Center for treatment and was later discharged.
The driver of the Lexus, Hector Ortiz, 22, of Camden, and his passenger, Louis Ramos, 20, were taken to Inspira Medical Center, where they were treated and later released.
Several lanes of traffic were shut down after the accident but state police said all had been reopened by mid-afternoon.
Police said no charges have been filed and the crash is under investigation.
Well, maybe someone got it on a dash cam or was in a good position to witness exactly what happened.... tragic loss of life no matter what caused it....
Sad. As safe as these cars are, when a guardrail skewers the passenger compartment, all the safety components in the world mean squat. The backseat passenger will probably harbor some serious guilt, since she obviously wasn't injured too badly. I know I'd have a tough time if I walked away from an accident that killed two friends.
Terrible accident for sure. Must have been traveling pretty fast at impact. I would've been coming thru that area on that highway this morning (well about 1hr earlier) if my plans had not changed.
Very sad, according to some of the comments in link TL was to left lane but another car there was doing close to 100mph she tried to swerve back to avoid that car and end up hitting the Lexus then guard rail. Guard rail didn't collapse like it should have either way sad story.
Very sad indeed. It's so crazy how an innocent drive to a car show can turn out so very wrong. Condolences to the family.
I wouldn't call driving to a car show innocent. Ppl caravan to the show and get in a mob mentality and drive horribly and fast. Every car show I have ever been to you see ppl doing burnouts and driving over 100 weaving through traffic going to and from the event.
Driving in groups on the highway is very dangerous.

Jeez this is awful.
I watched a local news report and a 60 minutes(?) special a couple months back about guard rails that have been skewering cars like this. Apparently the company that makes them reconfigured the dimensions of the face slightly to save some money on production. The guard rail ends up going through the car rather than collapsing as they are supposed to. There have been multiple incidents like this and there was some level of investigation done and some litigation too I believe. Don't remember it all, but this sure reminds me of it.
>>>>Police say the Lexus spun out of control for unknown reasons<<<<
Unknown reasons? Yeah, no one knew the Lexus was probably cruising at 100+ miles per hour. DUH!!
Now you know why insurance rates for under age 25 drivers are so astronomical.

Painting everyone with the same brush is out of line ... Were you there to witness this?
I go to a lot of car shows and travel with the group and none of this is done .. Burnouts are s different thing .. they aren't done on the highway ...

I watched this exact same thing and was gonna post it too! It's very unfortunate that's the case.. Condolences to the families, I doubt 'charges not filed' will last very long..
First thing that came to my mind after reading this is an article I read on NY Times last year. Searched for it and found it.
If you look at what caused these girls to actually loose their lives it was not the trauma from the accident but the guardrail going thru the car and basically cutting them in half.... Look at the video in that article. great look at how a guard rail is supposed to act.

Correct as tragic as this is and regardless of the cause of them hitting the guard rail there needs to be an investigation on the guard rail failing to work as it should.

Big difference here between the NY Times article above and this situation.
The NY Times article is referring to the guardrail head failing (device at beginning of a section of guardrail that is designed to collapse and not puncture the vehicle) and this story where she literally drove through the middle of a section of guardrail.

Correct NSX... However, my point is that overall the Guardraill failed in this occasion. Regardless of the point of impact the guardrail is not supposed to perform in the mannar it did in this occation. Also hard to say where the point of impact was just by looking at these pics.
