Daytime Running Lights

Just got an '08 TL, anyone know how to disconnect the daytime running lights? Dealer refused to turn them off.

You pull the fuse, I think you'll get a dummy light in the dash.

Lots of previous discussion on this - really no good way around them.

Just pull the bulb and disable the leads on the bulb. I'm not sure what kind of lamp it is, but I would think you can cut the ground wire off. Otherwise just hook up a power supply to it, crank up the current and burn out the bulb, problem solved. Best bet would be to get a schematic of the wiring and disable it properly (either a relay or plug somewhere).

^^

Well if you're gonna do that, just disconnect the wire harness at the socket and secure it "out of the way". No empty bulb space, no hacking of wires, no burnt out bulb, etc.

You're still going to get the dummy light on the dash though. Pulling the fuse sounds more practical and you get the same result.

BTW - it's an HB3/9005.

Why would you want to? The studies definitely show that daytime running lights increase your visibility to oncoming traffic and reduce the risk of head on collisions. That is why they are mandatory in Canada.

Now it makes sense. I had my 06 non-navi TL at the dealer for service and they gave me a 08 non-navi TL loaner for the day. Spent like a minute trying to find the switch or button to turn those things off...lol.

Not trying to hijack or anything, but the area where the navi goes looks so much better on the 07's and 08's compared to the 04's-06's...instrument panel is nicer too.

Are you referring to the non-navi displays? The 07-08's are definitely an improvement over the 04-06's.

Yep...sure is an improvement. Actually it even looks better than navi displays. I wonder if it's possible to swap out my boring, uninspiring non-navi display with this new one.

lol,why does everyone hate the drl's? they help and don't look THAT bad. If I don't have my headlights on sometimes I throw the parking lights on with the drl's and I actually think it looks mean.
