Dash light kit?
Dash light kit?
So my TL is getting to the age where I have a few burnt out bulbs in my dash. Doesn't exactly say luxury anymore. Anyone know where I can order a complete kit of replacement bulbs? OEM is okay. LED is great if there is a plug and play option. I'm only opening my dash once, so I want to get everything the first time.
what bulbs on your dash are out? the ones for the instrument cluster are already LED, and other ones will need to be changed out with a replacement bulb or you can do some modifications to make them LED. The 3G garage has good step by step instructions on how to make them LED.

I got mine at Radioshack, i think it was like $1.99 for the tiny bulbs. I believe they fit almost every switch/button on the car. I replaced the seat heater button bulbs.
Edit:
Here ya go. I'm pretty sure these were the ones.

I just joined and I don't see where this is in the 3g garage. All I see are pics of peoples cars they uploaded. I'm probably an idiot, but any help would be great.

Anyone know what size LEDs I'll need to replace the lights for the buttons surrounding the Navi monitor? Pretty much all the air and A/C control lights are burnt out, so my dash looks pretty wack right now. I've been searching for about an hour or so with no luck finding the size or a write up on replacing these specifically.
Can anyone help me with this? I can find the size for pretty much every other light bulb in the car except these. I don't think I have the patients to do do the LED mod, so if anyone knows the bulb size for the HVAC buttons and can post it, it would be appreciated.
If you buy the radio shac bulbs they are plug and play. No soldering. But yes you have to remove buttons and replace each one separately.
For example, Each seat heater has 3 bulbs. One for hi, one for low, and one for general lighting up the switch.

the radioshack ones will work for heated seat buttons, memory seat buttons, trunk button, and i think a few other ones around the instrument cluster. Now, for the ones by the radio like the climate control buttons, they will WORK but it will be much dimmer than the oem ones. I know this because I tried it myself, and ended up buying the oem ones because i wanted them all to be the same brightness. All these bulbs are plug and play, its very easy to replace, no soldering involved. the radioshack ones you just need to remove the colored cap off the oem bulb and place it on the radioshack bulb and trim off the excess leads, very easy to do, i could replace all the lights in minutes.
Paperboy is right; although I didn't know about the dimness of them compared to oem...
@paperboy: I think you were the one who showed me how to do this on my 03 accord coupe 6mt. You messaged me on drive accord dot net lol 7th6spd was my username.

I'm pretty stupid with this stuff, but if the OEM bulbs are needed to get the best lighting, what would someone recommend I do if I want to do replace them with blue light instead of the regular white light? I cannot find the post, but at least one person had all their button's done in red, (and it looked dope BTW,) and I'm curious what kind of bulbs those were or if it was an LED conversion.
Red lighting? Type-s has stock red lighting, maybe that's what you saw? It's not actualy a red bulb, it's a regular white bulb like any other TL but it has a red cover over it to make it red.
Yea it was probably me lol, I helped a few members with the instructions.
PnP LED replacement bulbs are the T3 Neo-Wedge type. Note that if you use these in your steering wheel (or other hard to reach locations), you should also install voltage regulators, especially if using white bulbs---they seem to burn out the easiest. Section G in the 3G Garage is a bit dated, as DM and myself were using individual LED bulbs and solder. The T3 bulbs eliminate the need for most of that and fit most locations.
The radio bulbs are an entirely different beast.

Anybody have part # for the OEM bulbs?
A bunch of mine are out including the temperature controls (navi) and one of the "Mode" buttons. I'm just going to replace all the bulbs in the Navi area and keep it consistent. I've already changed the bulbs for the MID controls and they look the same brightness compared to my working Navi bulbs (Mode). Same goes for my Steering wheel controls.
Edit:
Found them all for future reference:

I have something that might help regarding part numbers that I'll post later tonight when I get home as the file is on my laptop.
Can anyone comment if there is suppose to be a ligh around the navi joystick?

Here is how the bulb fits into the housing that is located in almost every switch in our cars. The bulb in this pic is LED but its the same for the regular bulbs.

Here's what the little blue housings look like when installed in a switch:

This is how you wrap the Leads on the bulb around the housing to make the connection when its installed

If you're doing LED you'll need the resistor or whatever its called thats also soldered there in that pic. If you use the radioshack regular 12v bulbs you don't need that. I know nothing about LEDs and don't want to deal with soldering so thats why I went the Radioshack route. Plus some of the switches have a very small area where that housing plugs in so all that extra wiring and stuff is gonna be hard to fit in there.

There is no illumination around the Navi joystick.
DeathMetal was making the LED boards for the radio---you can try PM'ing him for more info. User madsiick installed LED/resistors via the "old skool" method---search for his thread on the subject.

Does anyone know how the bulbs come from the dealer?
Do you just get the bulbs or do they come in the little housings? I've never bought them at the dealer before; and I lost one of the housings so I need to somehow find one. I doubt the housing has its own part number (I already looked)

I'll be going on a bulb replacement safari soon and that's how I'm planning to do it, even if I have someone else do the labor.

How would you attach load resistors to the NEO wedge t3 LEDs?
As DMZ suggested I changed all the bulbs around my navi a few weeks ago with new ones and one of those bastards went out again so I'm thinking about going with those LEDs.
