Damn quick lube........

Got the oil changed yesterday and unfortunately it looks like they over filled. The oil mark is about a 1/4 inch above the full mark.

What do you guys think? Ok to leave it as is, or should I crawl under the car and drain a half quart?

On my old car that was the normal filling level - since I'd burn/lose that much each week :toothless
Dunno of any potential damage in leaving it. If it were me, I'd drain some out.
Question - if you are able and willing to crawl under and drain some out - why not just change your own oil? Save a couple bucks and don't have to have the over fill prob again...just my .02 worth...

Well.........(sheepish look).......I'm willing to go under and drain because I'm worried about possible damage. Took to the quickie lube because work and the wife afford me little time to spend on my ride (either that or I'm just lazy).

Tisk, Tisk, Tisk... bought a car worth 30k+ and took it to get oil change worth $5.

Two words for ya...

Dealer ... Synthetic.

Seriously, take it back to them and have it corrected. Or else they'll end up replacing your engine.

You pick.

Over filling it a little shouldn't hurt anything. I know people that race american cars (camaro's and such) that have to over fill or their oil pumps could run dry at high rpm's. I used to do it too. Drain some of it out if your concerned about it. But, I don't think there is much to be concerned about. Certainly not as much as the new engine comments might lead you to believe.

Take it back and have them fix it for free.

Since I am a pessimist...if he takes it back for the "free" fix - he waits in line, takes time out from work, missing time with family or friends, then risks the knucklehead dragging his 3/4 ratchet drive down the side of the car and then gets in and gets grease all over the interior....no thanks

Don`t sweat it!
As long as it isn`t a half inch or more, Don`t sweat it.
Drop a dime and call the service manager and they will tell you the same thing!

Corn,
Here is the deal, after being a professional mechanic for over 8 years not to mention over 20 years personally, I would highly recommend you either drain 1/2 quart out yourself or have Jiffy do it for you (they obviously put 5 qts in vs the required 4.5 / I change my TL myself). Engines are entirely different BUT have a min and max fill mark for a reason.. Some will operate fine with a little extra and others will aerate/foam the oil, the crank can pick the oil up and over saturate the piston/rings etc. etc. - bottom line, it may or may not be good in the 3.2. Save yourself from worrying about it and have it drained to the proper level. Your dealer and Jiffy Lube will/(should) tell you the same - and if they don't, I wouldn't return to either....

And don't forget that he runs out of gas on the way and the tow truck only has 87 octane to give him. Oh my, Oh my what a horribly bad luck life he lives! :toothless :toothless
