Damn Dealers

I am writing this in frustration b/c my dealer was such a dumbass m/fer. I bought my TL in march and everything was great. i had a trade in of a '97 Toyota 4Runner and the people at acura was cleaning up the cars (my new one and the old). The guy asked me if I wanted him to return the tags back to the MVA or DMV which ever one it is and of course i said sure why not? it would save me a trip. about a week after, i call my insurance agent and he tells me that i cant take off the toyota from my insurance if i dont have a receipt from the dmv for returning my tags i cant get it taken off my insurance and i would have to keep on paying for it. THAT IS BULLLLLSHITTT oh and theres more. I somehow got that problem resolved by writing a 3 page letter of what happend but now all of the sudden i get this notice in the mail saying that itz illegal to drive around a car without insurance meaning that i would still have my car that i traded in 4 months ago and that i would have to pay all of the insurance costs that i havnt paid during the same 4 months that i havnt even seen my trade in car.....WTF IS THAT BULLSHIT!! how da hell am i suppose to prove that i dont have the car nemore and taht i turned in the damn tags?

Oh yeah i already tried tellin my dealer that i needed the receipt but he said to call someone else so i did and this lady ended up tellin me that Acura doesnt return tags and that even if they did they wouldnt have the receipt.

ACURA SERVICE BLOWS ME!!!!

Don't you have a Bill of Sale showing you bought the TL for a certain amount, and that you received a trade-in allowance of $XXX for your Toyata? This should prove you turned it in to the dealer.

Not sure how Maryland law works, but you should've signed a transfer of title on the trade prior to delivery of your new car. This means your dealer now owns it. Therefore, you can't possibly be responsible for insuring the car.

Deep breaths...

One has to physically surrender the plates at a local DMV. I sold my Accord to Carmax right after I got my TL. They told me to take the plates to DMV not to mention my insurance company advised me to do the same thing.

correct, I've had to do this with the last two cars I've sold.

In your case you may have to report your tags lost and then cancell the registration once the MVA declares them lost. (and pay insurance up to that point)

Which Dealer did you use?

How lame...in Texas the dealer paperwork handles the whole thing. Once I get the new car I just call the insurance agent and tell them to stop coverage on the car. No proof required or anything.
