Damn Construction Cones

Ok so over the weekend i went to see a buddy of mine. I was merging onto the highway. Infront of me was a car that was moving slowly so as i merged onto the highway and rather swiftly, downshifted and went to move past him in the left lane. All of a sudden i hear BOOOM. I was like WTF. Looked up again after i was startled for a sec and saw construction cones. NOw this particular one i ran over was not in line with the others so apparently someone already hit it and moved it out of line. So after dragging it for about 100 yards i pulled over. Because my car sits so low i couldnt get the damn thing out from underneath it. The smell of burned rubber and the scuff mark from the damn cone pissed me off. Some construction guys that were laying the cones came over and helped me pull it out, they said stop over at the bridge office and make a report. So i did, and also filed a police report cause the state trooper happened to be there. He brushed it off and was like "its no big deal i wouldnt bother writing a report" I was like huh... give me a report incase something is wrong with my undercarriage. He also tried rubbing the scuff mark off my hood i was like "yo back up your gonna scratch my hood".
Anyway im normally a pretty defensive and offensive driver and consider myself a good driver just a lil more aggresive then others, but all in all i ended up buffing out most of the scuff mark on my hood but there is a lil dent on the front of my hood from the cone hitting hard then going underneath. Oh did i mention the cone had no reflection thingy on it because it looked so old and looked like it had been hit many times before. So for those of you who are like "you should have been watching for it" like i said it was kinda dark and the reflector on the cone was fubar. Anyway do yous think i should report this to insurance and get my hood fixed, even though its not that badly dented. Just thought i'd share my story with everyone. SO watch out for those damn cones.

I know what you mean about those cones. We have the 3ft tall one's right outside my neighborhood as they are 3 laning that road. Not sure what your deductable is with your insurance. But if the dent is small it may not cost that much and you'd end up paying for it anyway if it's not more than your deductable. Hope nothing is wrong under your car.

I would see if you could get the dent fixed with paintless dent removal before reporting it to your insurence.

seems like your accident was on state property so you should contact the project engineer/project manager (department of transportation). Also there should be a field inspector/engineer on job site marking/tagging those orange drums/cones if they do not have reflective taping around them...reflectives are for nighttime jobs and the others are for daytime...someone's not doing their job

good luck

when i first got the TL i hit a piece sheet metal which left a slash *cut* or whatever on my bumper so i got it repair and just earlier this month i hit that damn tire which cracked a little bit of the paint on the bumper. also hate rocks my car spent 2 years on the high way every day of the week.

I would say that this sucks. I don't know if anyone noticed...but they use the sidewall of an 18 wheeler tire to hold down the new round barricades. Man...this guy cut me off on the highway once and kicked one of those up into my RSX...dented the hood, pushed in my air condenser unit and broke the bottom of the bumper. Sucked!

On another note...as I have the same problem...we have to learn patience. If you had stayed behind the slow dude, this wouldn't have happened. Easier said than done, obviously!

Did something similar, but the cone weight (not sure if they still have them) busted out and broke a brake line on my M3.

You did a good thing with the police report. Document that shit, and report the whole mess to your insurance. Be anal about it, as you should be, and get your money back.

I ended up spending $400+ to fix my B'mer, when the fault was with some stupid $12.75 I-don't-give-a-shit highway cone worker.

So if you weren't quite so aggressive and had stayed in the right lane, you wouldn't have hit that cone.

Make any sense?

Thats kind of an optical illusion in that shot...but I am running on Kumho V-710 racing slicks there (and most any other shot you see me racing in)...and they are fairly low profile tires.

yeah man... I avoid roads where there's construction going on... cause I know how things tend to get out of hand in those area's...

Living in New England and driving on so many horrible roads, I get used to that stuff.

Man, I wish they would take better care of the roads and fix things right away instead of leaving huge potholes for weeks/months before they even "patch" it up.

Sorry to anyone if I went off on a tangent.

Yeah the other day I almost hit a crate in the middle of the lane I was in. I was trying to pass up this hella slow ass driver that was in front of me and right when I was about to do it, he swirves left and I swirved too just cuz he did and wah-lah theres a stupid crate in the middle of the road. But on my other car I hit a cone and dragged it and scuffed up my bumper with the rubber. I was able to get it off, but still stupid cone not where it should be. haha

PEACE!
