D.I.Y. : Oil Change (Pics) 3G Garage #C-004

Oh and as for the placement of the oil filter, this has been my first ever oil change, so I don't have another car to compare it to but I thought it was SUPER convenient. I didn't even need to climb under the car to get to it. I just turned the wheels all the way to the right while it was on the jack stands and I could reach it. It was great.

Make sure you're turning it the correct direction. Consider a set of sockets from Sears that work with badly worn bolt heads, or worse case, a vice grip might be your friend.

I actually used a 17mm wrench instead and got it off with a lot less effort thanks to my Honda technician buddy Brad for the wrench and input.
Also, he said that the washers need replaced everytime, for that they are a "one crunch deal", and it could cause leak/damage for using it over and over.

also when working with car bolts, pick up a set of 6 point sockets. It'll be harder to round out the bolt head.
Generally the ones that come with tool kits have several points to make getting a wrench in easier.
But if you're using a ratchet then that point is moot since you can rotate the socket. 6 points if at all possible.

If you strip the (soft) threads in the oil pan, you end up with a whole new set of problems.
