curing period

I tried searching this and only came up with one person that says you don't need to wait. but if it was explained elsewhere... forgive me.

my dealership told me, face to face, i cannot wax the car for 8 months. they said they put some special protective wax that needs to cure into the paint which will set it, then after 8 months it'll be ready to do claybar or wax. is this true?
I was planning on doing a protectant process after i got the car with zaino? the guy at acura says the paint is not fully dry yet (honestly i think that's BS, cause i've hung around my friends bodyshop long enough that paint doesn't need THAT long to dry)

is what the dealer told me true?
thanks

8 months is a little long. But I did hear from a very good freind who paints cars and he said you should wait three months.

ummm if it sounds like BS and smells like BS then its BS. there is no special curing period. c'mon 8 months for something to cure??? give me a break. the cars are baked in the factory and the paint is cured by the time it hits the dealers lot. anytime they use the work "special" to describe a feature its BS. there is no magical wax on the car and if they claim they were gonna put this on i would not buy the car unless they agreed not to. most the time it's some useless "special" wax that is not much better than turtle wax. when you get your car you can wash it clay it and apply whatever protectant you like.

It's BS...without a doubt!! I Zaino'd my car 2 weeks after I took delivery and the paint looks better than any Anthracite TL on the lot. I've got 5 coats of Zaino on so far, and the finish looks like a "show car". Even the service manager commented about how good the finish on my car looks....way better than it looked when I got it.

This is the first I'm hearing about Zaino. Did some searches and saw some pics and I'm quite impressed. But how many coats do you need and is it this whole process in terms of applying it to the car, etc.? My TL is also Anthracite and maybe it's because all the salt on my car...but I think she needs some Zaino!! Is this something that should be done during warmer weather?

zaino is popular but also look up Klasse All In One(AIO) and Sealant Glaze(SG). i researched alot of products detailers use and this seems to be one the most popular. i've used it on my TL and even after a couple of snow storms with all that salt, the product has held up. The product is suppose to last 6-8 months and it has been about 3 months so far and its been pretty good.

Check out the Zaino Site, has a lot of info about their products. You can also check here for car care FAQ's. BTW, there are other products available such as Klasse, Blackfire, Pinnacle, 3M, Menzerna, P21s and Wolfgang to name a few. Some folks prefer certain brands over others, you decide which is the best product for your particular situation. Visit the sites, read the info and FAQ's and make an informed decision.

THe Zaino wax looks nice. I'm using the Meguires wax and Mother's clay bar right now and my car's smooth as silk. Clayed and waxed about 3-4 months after I got it from the dealer..SSM and looks better than before

also whatever product you use consider getting a porter cable when detailing. it will cut your time down alot. i use to apply all by hand and it took forever. using the porter cable it has made things much quicker. coats of product go on fast and come off just as quick. plus my hand is not sore from all that buffing.

The water-bourne paints used today are cured before they even reach the dealer. Wax away.

there was a huge debate on this when the G35 first came out. The general consensus was that it takes about 1 month for it to FULLY cure (chemicals are still being released from the paint during that time). Since our cars are shipped from Japan, by the time they got here, the paint was cured. Since the TL is built in USA, it might be quicker from factory to dealer, but I doubt you even need to worry. When I got my car, i bought it when it rolled off the truck. I Zainoed it when I got home from the dealer and haven't had any problems yet!!!
