If they did, it gets real expensive since the SRS unit and airbags have to be replaced and the seatbelts if yours locked which it probably did.

Hope everything works out for you.

Hood, bumper, headlight, fender, paint, airbags (if they went off) sounds totaled to me if not really close to it. Custom headlights too (are they? looks like they're blacked out a bit) .. they'll probably want to replace them with DEPO or OE equivalent parts.
Type S is blacked out. They are OE to the best of my knowledge. Both headlights are messed up/cracked. Only the steering wheel airbag went off. The Seat belt did lock I believe.

If it's higher mileage with the airbag going off probably totaled, if low mileage I'd bet they'll fix it.

Partial good news,

The other parties insurance company has officially accepted liability. Now to determine total or repairable.

Got the word yesterday, 10k repairable with Aftermarket (LKQ) parts. I find that to be absurd and guess I will be paying the out of pocket difference for OEM. My lower back and neck are still killing me, I'm going to pursue my back claim. Thanks for the well wishes everyone.

I hate i t when people say stupid crap like this. Sure if you bring it to a chop shop yea, but if you bring it to a reputable body shop you should NEVER know it was in an accident. Hell i could repair that in my garage in a matter of a few days and you would never know and the car wouldnt have any issues.

EXACTLY! Dont let the insurance co tell you what and where to go. You tell Them where you want to go and that you WANT OEM. Nothing less.

Thanks man. I am still in tons of pain. I have made that demand however the insurance company is horrible. I am also considering a depreciated value claim. Anyone know someone who does these in the Chicago area?

Just because thats where the sensor is does NOT mean that they should go off (which they did in this case) Airbags go off based on Deceleration. If the vehicle doesnt slow at a rate fast enough they wont go off and shouldnt go off. Looking at the pictures im actually surprised they did go off.

if you trust this body shop, they will fight for you. all they have to do is purchase the OEM parts, and get reimbursed for it.

Wow, now thats fucked up. They are going to repair your car with used wrecked car parts from LKQ??? Uhhh yeah, its time to either MAKE sure that car is totaled or absolutely demand new and OEM parts. I fucking hate insurance companies. One of the biggest scams in this world.

I Agree, I intend to demand OEM parts and already have.

Make sure you're involved in every step. I went to the shop and inspected mine myself. I found subframe damage at the lower control arm mounting point and asked why there was no subframe on the estimate. They were going to "repair" the subframe by bending it. I told them no repairs, only parts replacement and I got a new subframe. Things like this are key if you want to keep the car in like new shape and have it in the same or better shape than it was before the accident.

My car was only a couple years old at the time so they might have totaled it instead of replacing the subframe if it happened today.

what insurance company does the other party have? State Farm is probably the only one that pays for OEM. other insurance companies go with aftermarket and simply tell you your car is old unless your car is 3 year or less old ( which is absurd).

regarding the diminished value claim, inform the other party's ins company you will be filing one and they will tell you the kind of proof they wanna see. but certain companies (nonstandard) would tell you there's no such thing and you would have to go after them through small claim court.

It's basically a high end junkyard. They pull the parts off of wrecked cars themselves and it's all inventoried. At least that's what they are around here. Maybe there's another LKQ that actually makes parts.

but on a more serious note, theres nothing that cant be repaired properly, or repaired better than how it was before. after an accident like this, definitely replaced every single part in the area, it could include a lot of suspension parts, axles, etc

There is NOTHING wrong with used OEM parts if they arent wrecked.
