Crashed brand new TL - Totaled?

Hey everyone,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I crashed my TL type s 6 speed a few days ago which was bought about a month ago. Guy had a stop sign and did a hail mary trying to make it across intersection without regard to me. I was wondering if this is a total, I don't want a car back with frame damage.

we cannot possibly tell if your insurance will total it or not.
you will have to get with them and let them inspect it. let them tell you what is damaged.

and it looks like you broadsided him.
he didnt hit you, you hit him.

I don't believe anyone on here can tell you whether the car would be considered a total. That's up to the insurance companies

It will be interesting, but I don't see enough to total that car. Unless the front subframe is tweaked, that car will be repaired. Good luck to the OP, it sucks. My buddy got hit with his 08' TL-S when it was under a year old, totaled it.

I know that no one can tell me for sure, however, I am asking for opinions. The guy had a stop sign, I had the right of way, he tried to floor it through the intersection without any regard for me.

It defiantly sucks. They won't provide me a rental car until liability is determined.

I know that my car made impact. The thing is he had a stop sign and I didn't, therefore I had the right of way.

Hate crashes like this....if it's not totaled, it probably will never drive the same.

idunno, i incurred over $13k in damages to my car when I hit a curb, and my car tracks straight and drives exactly how it did before the accident.

so, who did the police cite?

The other driver left in an ambulance before the cop handed out the police reports. However, I asked the cop who was at fault and he clearly said I had the right of way and he was at fault. I also have a witness who is willing to give a statement to that. I did not get any tickets. The guy definitely had to get tickets for having young children with no car seat or booster seats and god knows if they were wearing seat belts.

our guess is as good as yours.

we only see the surface damage. bumper, headlight, hood, fender, and airbag.

I'm sure you see the same thing we are seeing.

That sucks! Oh, and it's not a brand new car, it's 5-6 years old. New to you it sounds like. Hopefully insurance will write it off so you can get one that hasn't been in an accident. Or if you're handy, you could buy it back cheaply and either part it out or fix it yourself.

Aye, the term brand new is mis-descriptive. However, to me it was brand new, and the newest/most expensive car I've ever owned.

Highly dependent on the state as to what percent of value they can repair. Might want to get an estimate out of the shop before it goes to insurance. If its close to the line you might be able to push them to bid high so it gets totaled instead of repaired.

Looks like your grill, bumper, hood, fender, headlights, and whatever got messed up in the underbody by the tire such as your cv joint will need to be replaced. They'll probably also include the rim if there was any damage. You may have even had some frame damage but I doubt it. It's probably totaled in terms of the cost the insurance will estimate to fix it up. Start looking for another type S :P. How many miles did you have on it?

I hope you are right my friend! It's a 2008 Tl Type-S 6MT with 74,000 miles on it. The thing ran so beautiful, I had a 2005 TL 5AT before but the tranny started slipping so I traded it in for this.

That sucks man. How much money will you lose if they total it? Do you own the car or have a lien on it? Just curious.

Thats one less 6mt Type S out there...or atleast one less that hasnt been wrecked. They are getting even more rare by the day. Sorry to see this happened to a nice car you just got.
I am no mechanic or insurance adjuster, but if I had to take a guess, I would say this car is going to be repaired.

I bought Gap Insurance. I'm underwater probably a K or 2. So I will just walk away loan free if its totaled.

I have notified both insurance companies of the pain. I also advised them that I was going to the hospital to be looked at.

You need to visit your doctor and have him look you over. Please do this within the next few days.

What's the KBB on the car? About $20K? Doesn't look like $15K+ in damage, they'll fix it.

Doesn't look like the airbags went off, which is surprising since the front impact sensor is right up there.

If they did, it gets real expensive since the SRS unit and airbags have to be replaced and the seatbelts if yours locked which it probably did.

Hope everything works out for you.

Hood, bumper, headlight, fender, paint, airbags (if they went off) sounds totaled to me if not really close to it. Custom headlights too (are they? looks like they're blacked out a bit) .. they'll probably want to replace them with DEPO or OE equivalent parts.

it can go either way. if you want it totaled, it can happen. if you want it repaired, that can happen too. since its nearing the border of totaled, any body shop thats willing to work with you can "adjust" their fees so that it can be totaled or not.

Based on my own totaled car, which did not have air-bag deployment, I am guessing $12-15K in damage, but really, I am not an insurance adjuster.
