Couple Type S inquiries from former base 3G owner

considering a type s for my next car. Totalled my 04 3G a few months ago and have been riding in my dads 04 gas guzzling Dodge Ram ever since and I can't take it anymore. I've been looking at a 12-13' 4G or saving some $ and going with an 07-08 3G. Haven't had much luck finding a type s super close. I've found a couple tho and had a couple questions. One I found has 180k miles for $5k . I haven't contacted the seller yet but Assuming the proper maintenance, etc was done would any of u guys consider purchasing one with that many miles? My 3G base had almost 270k on it when I totalled it. I COULD live with another base. A local dealer has an 08 with 100k miles on it but feel I'd regret not getting a TL-S. Another question is I was getting 29-30mpg on the bAse. Is 26-28mpg likely with the S ?

I haven't driven a Type-S, but if your '04 was AT, I'd recommend instead looking for a 6MT if you know how to drive 'em. Much more rewarding - I don't think the extra 20-35hp will make that much of a difference, especially in AT.

Where are you in MS? I'm in Lincoln county?

I know some dealers, but TLS's aren't common around here...

im in Hinds county. And yea I've seen very few TL-S around here at all.

And yea my last was an AT. I know everyone likes the 6MT but I refuse to own another manual tranny for a daily driver. In stop and go traffic I can't take it

Yeah, I get it... I'd like a manual, but I'm so worried I'll get distracted by twists and turns, wildlife, and god knows what else, I'll forget to shift, and find my self stalling, or pinging off the limiter again!!!

Hinds county, you're not but 45-75 minutes away, but you have traffic.. I'm in farmland!!!

Truth! In heavy traffic, I am usually in 1st or 2nd and rarely touch the brakes or the clutch.

I went from an '06 AT to a '08 Type-S AT. Gas Mileage was pretty much the same between the two in city traffic (21-22 mpg city, 28 hwy). Big thing you will notice is braking and steering. Steering and turning the car is much stiffer compared to an '04 - '06 because of the suspension on the car. Heat wash is real so you will notice a slight diminishing in power in hot weather. My Type-S just hit 140k and is running strong. You will want to pay attention to the tires and suspension because if the car is out of alignment it will eat your tires up super quick. Other than that, enjoy it if you can find it.

is the stiffer suspension when turning and steering something some people dont care for? I'm still on the search. I've found a base 08 I'm tempted to pick up but gonna give myself a lil longer to find an S

Different people look for different things in vehicles.

I was looking for a sporty ride that compared to a G37.
which, the 2006 TL 6MT that I picked up, checked off all the boxes on that front.

my 6MT is stiffer than the Auto base TL's and WOULD NOT TRADE for a softer suspension set up at all.
Because I like cornering.

so, it really depends on you and what your preference is.

black seats all the way.
if my 6MT came with taupe or beige, i wouldnt have bought it.

as my preference is geared towards sporty and not "camel luxury colored" or "peanut butter insides"

it's really up to you and your preferences, man!

yeah I dunno about the taupe I do like it over that graystone color but i love the ebony seats. Car is silver and I'm not sure I'd want taupe seats with silver exterior

I have kbp with taupe and that is what I looked for as I don't like the 2 tone seat color on type s if it was all black I might have made a different decision. One disadvantage of taupe is that it doesn't wear as well as the black. It's not my daily so that didn't bother me. Good luck

I chose the 6spd base. Mine is an 04. Hoestly for me the extra gear and better ratios in the 6spd was more important to me than a little bigger engine so I went for the base with manual. But if you can find and afford a 6sp TL-S then definitely go for it.

Mine is silver and all black inside. But non navi. For me it was perfect because I drove my step dads type s auto and it was about same as my car imo and I dont like the two tone so saving the money was the obvious choice. Tho they had this black on black 06 6spd I had to think about that hard.

My '07 Type S MT is the best car I've ever owned. 180k going strong and no signs of engine wear. Had problems w/ trany popping out or 3rd and 4th early on, but change out fluid every 50k and no further problems since. I get 30-33mpg on the highway driving 80+/-. Other than regular maintenance (religious about that), not single problem. Plan on driving another 1-3 years, and starting to look for a replacement.
Only regret is the grey leather interior. Definitely go black.
Would be worth your while going out of state to find a a good one... Broaden your search. Depending on the maintenance, that one you found for $5k might be a. Good one.
good luck.

I don't have a TL, I have a RDX.... I've never had any rattles... I know Accord owners have reported rattles before, I guess TL's are the same... I know the S has some differences in the interior, but I have no knowledge on weather it's related!!!

it depends on what kind of person you are.

if you are the sort of person to find and figure out what is causing the rattles, then it is a non-issue..because you can fix them.

if you are the kind of person that will just complain about rattling without ever looking for them or trying to fix them, then yes...they'll get on your nerves...

it's a vehicle. Vehicles are machines. sometimes, machines rattle.

The ONLY thing that would keep me away from a TYPE S is the cost of parts and difficulty sourcing them when needed.
The base 6MT does plenty of work as it is and OEM parts can be had easy.

Now that i think about it, that is true. They share alot of the parts. Getting axles for the 6MT is not cheap though.
The prices are the same for things such as sensors between base and type S?

Is it still that nice? I don't want a clean car like that, because I don't have a garage and I have cats, and I have gravel... NOT a good combination!!!
