Costco Gas...
Costco Gas...
Hi everyone,
This is my first thread so excuse if I posted it in the wrong place. But how does everyone here feel about Costco Gas? With gas prices rising so high nowadays, Costco seems to be consistantly 10-15cents/gallon less than "normal stations" atleast here in California.
thanks in advance.

I put Costco gas in all the time. To me the gas is good and can't tell any difference from the big brands. I do put in Shell v-power from time to time. The problem with Costco gas in my area is the long line...
I've been using Costco gas as well... ever since I got the car in December '05 to be exact. I pump there at least once a week.
When I can't find a Costco near by, I will pump at Chevron. I think I get better acceleration with Chevron gas than Costco gas. That Techron stuff either really works or got me thinking it works.

i live on a military base so gas prices are compeditive to costco. also my town has a web site that lists all the best gas prices in the area http://tacomagasprices.com so i use that then chose the best gas station in the area. most of the time costco is a little bit more than some of the places in the area.
I find Shell and 76 is cheaper if you know where to look. In my area it's not, but there are places in which the stations are a few cents cheaper, although it doesn't matter. Only saving a few bucks anyways. I still find myself buying shell and 76, however. Personal preference honestly.

My bro told me Costco gets the gas from the same company as Chevron but the difference is taht Chevron adds those additives in there "techron w/ Chevron" or whatever they say that is... Anybody know if this is valid?
All gas comes from the same pipeline. The gas companies just put their own additives in to it. This is from http://www.eia.doe.gov/neic/brochure/gas04/gasoline.htm
Can I tell which country or State the gasoline at my local station comes from?
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) cannot definitively say where gasoline at a given station originated since EIA does not collect data on the source of the gasoline sold at retail outlets. The name on the service station sign does not tell the whole story. The fact that you purchase gasoline from a given company does not necessarily mean that the gasoline was actually produced by that particular company’s refineries. While gasoline is sold at about 167,000 retail outlets across the nation, about one-third of these stations are “unbranded” dealers that may sell gasoline of any brand. The remainder of the outlets are “branded” stations, but may not necessarily be selling gasoline produced at that company’s refineries. This is because gasoline from different refineries is often combined for shipment by pipeline, and companies owning service stations in the same area may be purchasing gasoline at the same bulk terminal. In that case, the only difference between the gasoline at station X versus the gasoline at station Y may be the small amount of additives that those companies add to the gasoline before it gets to the pump. Even if we knew at which company’s refinery the gasoline was produced, the source of the crude oil used at that refinery may vary on a day-to-day basis. Most refiners use a mix of crude oils from various domestic and foreign sources. The mix of crude oils can change based on the relative cost and availability of crude oil from different sources.

I thought about whether to join Costco on the basis of gas (I'm single and wouldn't benefit much from buying other stuff in large quantities) until I realized that the nearest Costco is about ten miles out of the way from anywhere else I usually go, so it seems to me that I'd probably waste as much money driving there to offset the savings.
Out of curiosity I just went to Costco's web site. Their location nearest to me doesn't sell gas, so I'd have to go 30 miles each way to the Sterling location. That's really a waste!
Yeah, the sterling location is a bit far... I always go to the one In Fair Oaks... No gas there...
But, I used to go to Costco all the time for gas when I lived in CA.. the one in Vista right off of 78...

Wow. I used to work for Costco Gasoline and if you guys really knew what went into Costco Gas, you'd never pump there again!!!
LoL - just phuckin' with ya! Costco Gas is fine and yes, I did used to work for them. They did just add <10% ethanol into the mix a few years back though but other than that, works great. I go there all the time.

I live in east county and have been using the Costco in Santee for years. No problem with my F-150 and no problem with my TL.
A couple weeks ago I filled up my TL with Costco gas right before heading out to Arizon and then on the way back home from Arizon I used Shell gas. I didn't see any difference in gas mileage or performance.

Costco in my area is usually about 10-15 cents/gal cheaper than others. But since I'd use a gallon to get there and back I only fill up when I need to be there anyway otherwise it is more expensive overall. Both our cars run fine on it (Wife uses the 87 I use the 93). We do try and coordinate our "Costco Runs" with empty tanks when we can.

Thanks everyone. I've recently switched to Costco and was afraid I was killing my Accord's engine. It's good to know that there's nothing wrong with it. It also helps that I'm at costco almost every week for groceries, so getting gas there is convenient.
