A lot.
For a good paint job (door jams, engine bay etc.) you're looking upwards of $3500.
But why don't you go to paint shops and find out?

If you don't mind losing resale value, then paint away.

That's KOGTL's car. He doesn't really log onto this site too much.

If you plan on repainting the car, repaint it the exact same color it is now. Even so, it'll cost you ~ $4k. Anything "custom" added in, will raise the price.

For reference, this is vipTL's car. It used to be WDP, and is now another color. It cost him > $7k:

A quality job with all the jambs, engine bay, etc is going to run $6k-$8k.

I went to Maaco and got a qoute. They said they would paint the hole car, in the same color, two stage paint for $1220 out the door. What do you guys think? Should I go for it? I think it's really cheap.

I'm glad you're on this forum. If you even think about entertaining a Maaco offer...you're on your way towards the road of regret.

I actually went to a great shop that I know then when to Maaco just to see what the difference would be. The good shop said they would do it for $4550. Big difference, I wonder if the good shop, price matches? LOL

That's kinda like asking if a world class steakhouse will pricematch with a McRib.

(except the McRib has a better paint job than MAACO )

hey bro..i recommend you to do go to a good shop that is gonna do it right.. i work at a busy shop and we dont do many complete jobs because people dont want to pay for it...a complete job that is going to be great is more than 5k...good shops take everything off and do the jambs.. let me know if you have any questions

If you look closely at KOGTL's car, you'll see it has a black stripe down the hood and extends to the front bumper.

Here's his thread-the TL's name is Rose.

Where do you live? If you live in Houston, I can get you a decent paint job with warranty for a very good price.

I looked at Rose and I didn't like her alot. The color is really great but the door jams are still blk and the arrow is kinda ricey. Maybe if it was like a ghost grafic, only visible at certin angles. I'm not hating, very person has his or her own likes and dislikes. I'm just expressing my thought as to what I would of done sould it have been me.

If you really want a quality paint job, make friends with a painter. Some shops allow their guys to do side jobs when they are off the clock.

A freind who is a painter does this all the time charges about 1000-1500 to do a car (everything but the engine bay). Granted it takes him about 2 times the amount of time that it would usually but the work is just as good, if not better because the cash is going in his pocket.

Try posting on your local craigslist you might find a painter that is willing to spray your car as a side job.

It's not an arrow, it's a crucifix. His piety provoked him to paint. (wow, awesome alliteration brian)

Do you know what is the name of the color or maybe the color code that he used. In another thread someone posted a M3 with an awsome color called techno violet. I might go in that direction.

I think the Jesus Mobile looks sick. I used to have a 1999 Integra that had the dark midnight blue and I loved the color. That car is pretty sick, and super unique.

Body Paint change only, would estimate for $2,000.
Custom Paint, probably a little bit more.
However, for a full body paint, including the door frames and such, $4,000.

Yeah, and it should stay that way (my )

The time, quality, and money put into his custom paint/body work is on another level. I dont think anyone should copy his color.

I understand originality, I've made up my mind I'm gonna go with the BMW color called techno violet off a 97.

I'm going Carbon Black.

I was debating on doing Alpine White and painting the gray parts of the A SPEC kit black.

I'm leaning toward Carbon black too. I'm hoping it won't be too expensive since the car is already black (sort of). Debating on getting the jambs done too since they're perfect and you really can't see the blue metallic in them.

This thread is awesome.

Here's a chart of the BMW paint codes; the Laguna Seca blue is AMAZING but don't think a TL can pull it off....

Some thoughts I had about a repaint.
  • Interlagos Blue Metallic

  • Laguna Seca Clearcoat

  • Melbourne Red Metallic

  • Glacier Frost Mica (Lexus)

  • Monterey Blue, Nissan 370Z and Lamborghini

I was thinking about the Melbourne Red, but since I'm a longhorn, people will think I am an Aggie (Maroon) :/

Oh yeah, when I park my car at school, it will probably get scratched anyways if I painted it red.

You need to understand that most of the time and money that goes into a quality paintjob is in the prep work and taking everything apart and reassembling. Places like Maaco just tape off everything they can instead of taking things apart and they do minimal prep work. This results in lots of blemishes and a paint job that doesn't last but a couple years.
With a paint job you pretty much get what you pay for, although some shops do tack on a couple extra grand over what they should charge.
