Coolant Reservoir Cap Broke
Hey All,
I replaced my coolant reservoir cap about 3 months ago when I was changing my valve cover gasket. I broke it by accident.
I just noticed tonight that the new cap is broken at the same area. I am not sure how long it has been broken, the car has not been overheating at all.
Would it do damage if I continue to drive it for a day or 2 until my new cap comes in?
Thanks

They break if you cross thread them and try to tighten them. Its easy to do.
You should feel the threads smoothly engage until the cap bottoms out on the reservoir.
If you get like...a half turn in and start feeling resistance like the cap is flexing...STOP. You are cross threading it.
Its easy to mess up.
I usually use just the tips of my thumb, index, and middle fingers to hold the cap as I tighten it with minimal friction. Don't use your palm.
Also, don't over tighten it.
It won't harm anything to drive it, as long as the hose inside the cap is dipped totally in coolant, and also won't ingest air through the cracked part.
That hose acts like a straw, to push coolant out into the reservoir when the coolant is hot...and suck coolant back in when it all cools down. If you have some sort of air gap where it can leak, it will suck air instead of coolant into your cooling system..which is bad.
