I think it's from the Car and Driver comparison review of sports sedans. The TL did pretty well, as I recall.

I had a scissor jack collapse a long time ago and had to replace the strut on my 96 Accord because of the fall. I've always wondered why the struts didn't blow on impact after a car got off the ground like that. Hmmmmm.......

AIRBORNE TL! Don't see that everyday. I use to have an old job with a service van. I knew of this one ramp. I'm telling you honestly, I got that thing about 3-5 feet in the air. It was dangerous but it was soooo much fun.

Sounds as though they also didn't care for the suspension tuning...I wonder if the A-spec package would have faired better. Overall, Acura has done a nice job of funnelling 270 HP throught the front wheels. For me, I will accept some of the compromises this requires as I live in the north, but I can see their point from a purely performance perspective on dry roads.

thats what it looks to me, but i wasnt sure.

if i remember correctly, the reason it got third was b/c of the "got to have it factor" and "fun to drive" factor. otherwise its first and thats all i care about.

Hey, at least the first paragraph is REALLY good:

"Acura was clearly planning to take no prisoners with the latest TL, and that was immediately apparent at the drag strip, where the TL ripped off a 0-to-60-mph mark of just 5.8 seconds—a half-second quicker than the potent Infiniti G35 could manage with its 3.5-liter V-6, and more than a second quicker than the best of the rest."

Besides, Car and Driver is biased against FWD cars. This is why the TL isnt winning the comparos. Fact is, these auto magazines love RWD, despite the fact that a FWD car (ie. TL) is much better all around.

I lost respect for Car and Driver years ago, and them picking a 325i over the TL just further justifies my stance.

C&D has posted pics of the TL off the ground every time they've tested it. I have, somewhere on my PC, images of a red 1999-2001 TL-P off the ground, a blue 2002-2003 TL-S off the ground and now this one. I'm going crazy searching for the first two now...

The Blue TL Type S that was off the ground was in Motor Trend, not Car and Driver. I believe it was the April 01 issue.

I didn't read your link but if I remember correctly the TL out performed both, except for braking, but lost because of the inherent bias against FWD in sport sedans, or coupes.

Eh, they weren't super-keen on the A-spec. In fact, they called it "gilding the wrong part of the lily." The bottom line of the review is "sure, it handles better...but it should be a RWD car."

Car and Driver uses that same picture often. I have an older issue where they did the same thing with the previous generation TL. In the article the writer comments the VSA became confused when all four wheels left the ground.

Furthermore, catching a little air generally doesn't do too much harm. Close to where I live, there is rail road crossing with a steep dip on the otherside. You can sit in the parking lot across the street and watch many cars catch air as they go over the railroad crossing.

I know with my CL-S I caught some good amounts of air. The little exclamation mark would start blinking and sometimes I would hear all 4 tires chirp.
I haven't done it yet with TL.

C & D is sad...I mean, how can they compare 325i with the TL. Maybe the only thing that 325i does better is when it's turning but other than that our TL are superior in EVERY aspect.

G35 Coupe is nice but the 4-door version looks kind of crappy to me...

Stupid car magazine, don't waste your $3.95 (or whatever they cost). I never buy them~
