I signed up for an additional 2 years. It was a no-brainer...Columbia, SC commercial radio is a sick joke. Almost every station is owned by Clear Channel.

this follow up question might belong in a SM forum.. but since it's already up....

How does this SM radio thing work in terms of having multiple radio? If I sign up with the TL..... and if I purchase portable SM radio for my home.. do I have to pay additional fee for that??? is it one payment per unit?

Thank you

I'm still in the 3-month trial period, but I intend on renewing for either 3 or 4 years when the trial ends. I would have preferred to pay the extra $2-3/mo. for Sirrius (no commercials), but XM gets my business because it's already installed.

I'm planning on renewing when my 3 months is up too. I'll probably go for the 4 year plan.

Hmmmmm......I think only certain channels are commercial free. Yesterday, I drove 4 hours in the car and listened to XM the entire trip and frequently found commericals on the sports channels and the comedy channel.

I renewed month to month as a savings of $1/month didn't appeal to me

Regarding "commercial-free" - I'm not sure about this, just hypothesizing here, but I think commercial-free is defined as no PAID advertising. Which means XM can still advertise itself, and possibly can have ads from other sponsors through complicated agreements that don't involve actually paying directly for advertising time. Again, I'm really not sure about this, but I too have heard occasional ads.

Regarding renewing month-to-month, I agree with VTEC. I like the service but I don't think the package savings are all that great, and who knows what could happen to your money if XM runs into financial trouble, or for that matter lowers the prices down the road. (Of course, they could RAISE the prices, too, in which case an advance purchase might protect you...so...)

On a related note, has anyone found MAJOR trouble spots for reception. Like, whole towns or long stretches of highway where it just doesn't come through?

My three months are running out this week and I do not plan on renewing. I can not see paying for radio. Also, I only like about 3 of the channels.

Same here. I find myself burning my own CDs anyway.. I like the control that comes with having your own discs (fast forward, skip ahead, repeat repeat repeat!)

It's commercal free on the the music channels only. And, yeah I wonder about their music program managers...the playlist are a bit strange sometimes. But, NASCAR Radio and the Comedy channels are worth the price.

Lets take a look at this... It would grow to about $1,000 in 7 years at 8% (stock market avg) and over $31,000 in 40 years (for the young). I do not think that is nothing.

But, I still think that you do not get the value even if I did not care about $10 per month.

My point...... in the scheme of things I paid X amount for the car + gas, insurance, maintanance etc..... so $10 more is not much. Just my perspective.

I signed up for 2 years. I still have free month to go, but I really do like XM. At first I thought paid radio was a joke, but when you have a long commute, it's well worth it. I also heard that they might raise the monthly rate...

My understanding is that if you sign up for a 5 year contract, you can cancel at any time and STILL get the $7.48 per month rate for the months that have lapsed. Is this true?

I plan to keep XM. I have a long commute, so I will get a lot out of a $10/mo subscription. I was in the "I won't pay for radio" group before I bought my TL, but now that I've given it a shot, I think it's worth a subscription.

I signed up for 4 years but I've only played the DVD-A since getting the car. I guess I'll get around to the radio eventually.

Renewed for 2 years. Use it all the time but only 6 or 7 channels. It was great on our 5000+ mile trip, and I use it now exclusively unless I need local news or whatever. I swore at first that I would not go beyond the 90 days free, but my tune changed long b4 the trial was up.

I plan on subscribing.

Although, I think they should have "skins". You know for the Navi screen when you play music. Have funky colors while driving down the road.

Or better yet, add a porn station and have raunchy images on the screen.

Yeah!!! XXXM Radio!

Ahhhhhh......

Cmon... if you want to hear the same music over and over ands over and over and over and over that you can hear anywhere and have heard over and over and over for the pasy whatever amount of years, maybe XM is not for you!

I am glad to hear different things.... and am glad they don't just olay the SAME few songs as my regular FM stations....

My friend has Sirius in his car, and IT DOES play the same songs.. I mean that is fine, but there is MORE music than a few songs.... but big comapnies try to "control" what you hear..

I applaud XM for the variety and wouldn't think of going back to boring radio with commercials again....
