Considering 2007 TL 5AT

I have read numerous postings at various internet sites regarding rattles in the dash, doors, and sunroof of the Acura TL. Being that I just sold my 2007 Passat becausde there the rattles were so pervasive that I couldn't bear to drive any more, I want to make sure I have my facts in line before I go forward with the TL.

My question to this forum is for those that have experienced rattles, has your dealer been able to cure them?

I am thinking that I could tolerate a rattle or two as long as the dealer can fix them. I think some people are more sensitive than others regarding rattles. Unfortunatley I am very sensitive to those sort of noises in a $35,000 car.

There are so many threads on rattles it would be impossible to list them all.

Go to the Problems & Fixes Subforum and scan through the threads there.

You can also do a search on "rattle"

Check out the 3G Garage and again, search for "rattle"

And welcome to the forums.

I had 2 rattles right off the bat with my '07. It took ~35 miles of test driving for service to hear, locate, rectify, and then confirm the fix, but they got them both, and the car is completely quiet now.

dont even think about gettina a TL then. First i had the 2004 TL in manual then i traded it for the 2005 AUTO. And with both cars i got rattles, not as many as with the 04 but still one or two that really dont bother me cause they can be easily fixed. Maybe with the 2007 they got it finally right who knows. But to be honest with you i wouldnt wanna be that anal cause any car is potentially gonna have some kind of rattle it all depends how lucky you get with the car and where do u really drive it. Me driving most of the time in NYC im not even suprised

For the money thoe in that price range i dont there is anything that can come close to the TL. Its a great car.

Like others have said. Rattles in TL are standard unfortunately. I had 04 and I sold it casue I could not stand the rattles. I bough 06 hoping it would be better, but it is not, and to top it off, I have ugly misalignments in the dashboard (silver trim) and between the doors which I did not have on 04. I am really happy with the features and how to car drives (being FWD), but rattles can sometimes get really frustrating and I doubt that I drive a luxury car. In today’s standards, buyers are more demanding, and today rattles are not acceptable even in 15k price range, but we get them after paying ~35k.

It is different if the car rattles because something is loose or not well put together and it is very sporadic. TLs' design is not rattle proof and no matter what something will eventually rattle.

Thanks for the feedback Ron. Prior to posting I did search the Problems and Fixes section and that was very helpful.

Thanks. Sounds like a great testimonial to your service department.

I have a 2004 TL 5AT. Once or maybe twice I thought I heard a slight buzz on the center speaker. I pressed on the speaker grille and it went away.

Other than that, any rattles I heard were quickly traced to DVD jewel cases or something that I had put into a cubby.

I have a theory that cold temperatures (below 60) and rough roads will cause interior parts to move slightly against each other and make a noise as plastics do.

So, blessed with warm weather and good roads in Florida, I haven't experienced the rattles.

i was in my friends 07 GS450 this weekend and heard more rattles than anything. i think its near innpossible to have a car without rattles, its just that there are more venues for people to voice acura. but when you have them the dealer fixes them.

When you test drive, blast the speakers and listen carefully

OMG. If you are sensitive to rattles and just sold your previous 2007(!) model year car because of rattles, I'm pretty sure the TL is the LAST car you should be considering. Rattles don't (typically) show up until a few hundred miles, so listening for rattles while doing a test drive on a car with 10 miles won't help you any. You WILL get rattles and getting the dealership to fix them can be hit or miss. Better look elsewhere (G35, IS350, 335i, A4, etc)
