Confused about steering knuckle and lower ball joint...
I have a 2008 BASE, checked with vin number. I brought a spindle from U pull from Acura tl 2006. And when I did put out my old spindle it turns out my spindle ball joint and new one ball joint look different and seat in lower control arm is much bigger. What is going on here?
The item you indicated is the sleeve that came out of your lower control arm. You will have go get that sleeve off before using your new ball joints. For some people its fairly easy to remove, and at time they're on there *quite* snuggly.
Holy cow so I turn stupid. So, I need to unscrew that sleeve and put it on the "new" one? Did checked a couple videos and nobody show anything about some sleeve. At U-pull didn't get any sleeve just as is in picture.
Yeah, here is sleeve at 18:40. So nothing at videos I checked and at U-pull didn't get it out but at my car did for perfect horse sh. I had to finish my job because it is at the parking lot of apartments. If would have garage would ask what is going on here and then finish.
The sleeve is part of your lower control arm, if I am not mistaken the factory service manual call for replace the entire lower arm if the sleeve come off. Just remove and press back into the control arm and you will be fine.
So the videos you're probably looking at are all 04-06 models, specifically in this video as well. The 04-06 models did not come with sleeves on the lower control arms if I remember correctly. 07-80 models came with the sleeve on the lower control arms, so you'll have to move that sleeve onto the new spindles you received.
TRQ video about Lower ball joint replacement didn't say one word about sleeve even he pulled it to. 9:45 sleeve on, 10:14 new LBJ no sleeve, 14:15 pushing it in with obviously sleeve on new LBJ.
Also, you can visually confirm that even though the sleeve isn't mentioned. It was not mentioned because there was a new LCA installed. Most aftermarket LCAs do not have that sleeve, and you can just install a new balljoint with no problem, hence why the sleeve may have not been mentioned. But I do find it strange that the sleeve is never mentioned in any ball join videos.
Why did you get newish spindles to begin with, if I may ask?
When I drive, I have noise from wheel at driver side and when did 12-6 test it was obvious movement. I cannot do pressing at apartment building, need to be fast so I brought knuckle from U-pull. That said after freeing upper ball joint with hammer now it looks it is gone too. Will go to U pull again in hope to get sleeve and upper control arm.
Well as I was kicking upper ball joint housing at 3/4 to disconnect upper control arm play of wheel at 12/6 become much worse. At 3/25 replaced upper control arm and no more play. And no noise too from the wheel bearing area. It looks like I did a misdiagnosis. Probably because the car was seated for a few months noise was in the driver's wheel. There are opinions on Youtube that the wheel needs to be shaking on 12/6 and 9//3 and actually in any position of hands to declare bad wheel bearing.
This case of misdiagnosis and working in snow and ice for 3 hours for nothing makes me a better person. I decided to start my own business in something and become a new Rockefeller so I can buy a new car and need not fix anything.
