Comptech Exhaust

Just spoke with them. Their exhaust will be done in a couple weeks.
Disappointed though.
They are going with that round exhaust tip.
What a shame.
I will not be getting it.
The idea to having a luxury sport sedan is keeping it that way without people knowing it's has some upgrades. Wouldn't you just love to beat another TL and having them wonder why?
The bumpers of our cars have a unique shape. The round exhaust will look horrible. :'(

I saw that picture. If the exhaust is like that, it's not very eye-catching product...

looks bad.... it makes the TL looks similar to TSX. i also wonder if this will fit the car without the body kits as the pic shows the TL with body kits on.

Be smart about it. Why won't you guys buy the exhaust, take it to a local muffler shop. Ask them nicely to take the tip off your old exhaust, and put it on the comptech exhaust. I own a shop myself, so it looks like i will be getting it, and customizing it myself. Duh?

Getting a muffler shop to put the stock tips on is a solution, but one that I do not like. If I am going to be spending that much money on an exhaust, then you would think that Comptech would listen to feedback and make the tips look like the stock tips.

whiteTL, it sounds a good solution. By the way, what is your shop doing? a body shop? I am trying to find a place for professional body kits installation. Wonder if you could help

Comptech never listens. They are rude on the phone as well.

I wish there was another company with better customer service.

04 TL buyers are not kids. We don't like the tomato can exhausts.

Are you listening Comptech...

P.S. lower your prices on your superchargers.

I forwarded this link to Comptech. They said they will address this on future models.
Everyone should complain to them. Maybe they will retro fit their existing supply, if that's possible.

I wrote them an email, along with a few others, when this picture first appeared on the site. They blew it off, I got the generic "Hope you come back when we have your product".

I have to agree, it just doesn't look good! Hopefully comptech will change the aesthetics so we can retain the (stock) good looks it currently has.

This if funny. I emailed comptech like 2 days ago, and i just received their email from a guy name Rob. He sounds really nice, and he was telling me information about it. How it has a 4" round tip, and so on. He also said if i had any more information to feel free and ask. I don't really do professional installation for kits. I have a tires, mufflers, and mechanic work here in Sacramento, California. All I can think of is Comptech makes it a round tip so maybe it would less expensive? A tip usually runs for 45$ each. So thats like adding another 90$ to the system. Its just an assumption.

CompTech blew it - they went up their typical set-up.

Having just lost a sale on an S2000 exhaust which I pre-paid and was given 2 firm ship dates that never materialized, I am a bit disappointed with C'Tech - they are acting like one of the small japanese tuner houses. I am not Amused, and will Spoon out my displeasure.

I'll wait to pass judgement until they actually release the product and production photos. They make good products, so hopefully that will be the case here. They are not too far from me so maybe I can check it out when they are done.

The big problem for Comptech would have been the machining to produce a matching set of tips to the production exaust, for the 2004. I think it is sad and I feel that if enough people here send them messages expressing thier disappointment (politely), they will have to reconsider. I would like to get the extra boost and sound that one of thier systems provide but the astetics would keep me away.

Although I agree with you, the language is a bit over the top :sqnteek: - this isn't like we are sitting in your living room where you make the rules.

I agree with batting_cleanup. We will all have to wait and see the real product. They did say that it will be 2-3 weeks before it actually comes out. Who knows, if all of the people who are not satisfied complain enough they could change it before it comes out to the market.

I havent looked that closely at the factory tips yet. But there is always a work around.
Also, the power to be gained is likely from a less restrictive muffler, and not so much from the tubing size. (although that does matter too)

I don't think the hole would be smaller. I believe the stock exhaust should be the same diameter is the comptech one. The tip itself on the comptech exhaust is 4", but it doesn't mean the piping from the exhaust is 4". So it should be the same.

Here is an e-mail i got today from Comptech

"I'm sorry to hear that you are disappointed in the design of are TL exhaust tip. If you wanted to keep the stock exhaust tip I would recommend you contact your local speed shop and see if they can cut off your factory tip and weld it onto a aftermarket muffler. Hopefully you will not be disappointed with the future TL products we have planed to release. Thanks

Hmmm, I wonder if it frees up any horsepower? Just a minor detail that seems to have been overlooked in all the discussion of tip shapes. I guess we'll find out in a few months.

Let's Get This Fixed!!!

Post a link so we can all complain! Maybe they could offer this set with the 2 options, stock tips or kiddie tips

Agreed it's an easy fix, but it cost more and we shouldn't have to dish out more $$$ for their mistake to us, it's really a slap in the face

Everybody please take the time to voice your opinion and let's see if they will give us what we want and hopefully change some of our current views about them!
