Closing the deal on an 05

Closing the deal on an 05 auto w/o navi. Midwest dealer said he'd give it to me for 500.00 over invoice. That would make it approx. $31,270. That didn't seem too bad, but now I see Acura gives their dealers a 3% holdback on MSRP and they also give a $500.00 marketing rebate.
I think he told me there would be a $100.00 document processing fee also.
My $500.00 over invoice equals approx. $2000.00 profit for a couple of hours of work. Should I try to get him to go lower or ask for accessories such as splash guards, wheel locks, and trunk liner? They have only two 05's left, one is a demo this one isn't.

Any advice before I go tonight?

Thanks.
Doug

Some forum members were buying 05's/w navi for that price close to one year ago. I think you are leaving about $2000 on the table and it is still a questionable deal. Unless you are positive you will keep the car more than five years, get an 06. The accessories you mention cost about $200 btw.

I would call him or e-mail him your numbers, tell him its a done deal if he goes down another 1k (or whatever you feel is fair) If you go in to the dealership you dramatically weaken your postition, worse case can he can say no. Tell him that he needs to sweeten the deal otherwise you will have to go with an 06, work the 05 depreciation angle.

I bought my 2006 without navi for $31,800 in the midwest about 4 weeks ago. I know I could of got it for about $200 less if I ordered the car but I couldn't wait.

I'm sure you could probably get them to come down a little lower (and waive the doc fee or lower that) now that the 2006's are out.

Good luck. Let us know what you end up with!

Yea got to agree 500 over invoice is a bit of a rip since the 06s are out. As for the 3% hold back, they will tell you that has to cover the costs of running the place and that their entire commission is in the amount they get over invoice. The marketing rebate makes it look like you are paying invoice. I imagine the rebate is from acura and not the dealer.

I would price out an 06 and see the cost difference. Once that car is registered it is used and since it is an 05, the trade in price will drop like a rock. If you drive an 06 off the lot and it loses 3k or more.. Than you can expect the 05 to lose even more. 5k anyway. We're talking retail here and not trade in.

500 over invoice is what many car dealers will accept. Some want more nowadays, but it depends on where you are buying, your negotiating skills, and the dealer. Some people thrive on going back and forth with dealers and having the negotiations last weeks. But that's 500 over invoice on a new car and not an 05.

In the end if they give you 500 over invoice on the 05 and 1000 over invoice on the 06, I would take the 06. Depends on how tight you are for cash I guess.

good luck and do not take any bull that the 05s have more horsepower than the 06s!!! lol.

My father spent 1200 more 6 months ago and got it with navi, at 500 below invoice, TRY HARDER or tell him to throw in navi(you won't regret it).

I think I'll throw a number below invoice and ask for the accessories. If I ask for a replacement for the Bridgestones, what should it be? I used Edmonds and priced a used 05 with a few miles (240 miles)- if I remember it was 29-30K.

Since 06 came out, you should get deep discount for the 05....You should be paying around 30k for a 05 (no demo). Tell him 30,300 w/accessories. Walk out and tell him, I'll wait for the 06. Use invoice price and start to minus the holdback & fees and work from there for a fair price. Obiviously, he gets it below invoice.

instead of the tires and acceseries get navi, or include that in the price he is offering now.

Where do you live?

Bought my TL 2005 w/ NAVI and 6 speed manual for $30,750, only 2,800 miles on it. I thought it was a good deal.

Bought my New 05 auto/no navi (regret it, wife did not want it...another story ) for $29,900 in late November. They wanted to get rid of the 05's and I jumped on it. They offered me an 06 w/ Navi for $33,300 but you know who won that battle. DON'T RUSH. I use Edmunds and requested quotes from various dealers. The one around the corner from my house had the best price.

31,270 for an 05 is too high... maybe a regional thing, but I got my 06 auto w/o navi one week ago for 32400 OTD. The selling price was 31,100.

Picking up 05 TL Nav tomorrow

I was pretty set on getting the 2006 TSX, but ended up getting an auto Silver 2005 TL w/Nav for 34300 OTD in So Cal (8.25% tax). I hope I made the right decision. I guess I will be joining the TL side of the Acurazine forum!
