Climate control weirdness

I always leave the climate control on Auto with the temp set around 73 degrees. I've almost never had to touch it.

The last couple of days have been different, though. Its about 55 degrees outside. The climate controls starts out in floor mode with warm air. At some point it switches to dash mode with air that is WAY too cool.

Anyone else notice stuff like this?

I also recently noticed that the outboard dashboard vents seem to have a lot more volume than the center vents. Is this normal?

I know someone mentioned once that the HVAC system has a self diagnostics mode -- how do you activate it?

Red face

My climate control will act similarly while outside temp is around 50-60. In other temp range, my AC and heater are working OK.

This forum is GREAT! I was just noticing the very same issue and over the past few days (I'm also in the Bay Area). Too weird. In the past I was just about comfortable with "Auto 68", but these last few days I've had to crank it up to 74 or 75 to avoid the cold-air-on-face phenomenon. Oh, and before others start chiming in with their "why don't you just move the vents" comment, the vents have been positioned this way for a long long time, so there's definitely something different. I was wondering whether it had something to do with the sun sensor, but maybe it's just the outdoor temp as rets mentioned.

Same Experience

Amazing, on our drive out to Indiana last Friday we had the climate control set at the usual 71 degrees. About 2 hours into the trip, we got the cool air in the face you described (mode set to bilevel, not auto), and we had to bump up the temp a few times, eventually to 75, to get the air stream at a comfortable temp.

Then when we arrived, and started to doing local trips around town, we had to reset the temp back to 71, at 75 it was WAY TOO HOT air blowing at us just driving around on short trips.

Then same thing on the way home, after an hour or two, we had to bump the temp back up to 75.

I wish I had an accurate thermometer with me, it would have been interesting to measure the temp of the air coming from the vents at the different times/settings.

I too wonder about the possibility the sun sensor has something to do with this. Maybe try covering it with tape to take it out of the equation?

Add me to this growing list of Bay Area drivers who got a sudden blast of cold recently. I noticed this last week. I keep my temp at 73 and, since it's cool enough (55) outside, I have A/C off. I was sitting at a light facing south-west at 10:30 AM and suddenly, cool air started blowing from the center vents. I had to move them, but I couldn't move them enough to avoid the drafty feel. Maybe it's a conspiracy!

Yup, my car does the same....more air flow from outer vents when compared to the center ones..

I'm a few hours southeast of SF but have also noticed something similar. I don't get the blast of air but keep it set to auto 75 degrees. Usually that's fine but sometimes I have to crank it up to 78-80 for comfort. Outside temps 55-60, very strange. Also the sun does not see to have an effect on the variance.

Add me to the list.

Strange how I just noticed it today as I was driving home. And then I get home to read this thread. Weird?!?!?

My question is; Is there something wrong with all of out TL's climate control systems?
Poor design mayber?
