My concern about this mod is time and warranty. Being inexpensive is the appeal for doing the DIY. And the appeal of having it done professionally, of course, is appearance, time not wasted, and warranty if something goes wrong later (ie, yellowing and peeling).
If the DIY will last a long time, with the materials that Mark uses, then maybe I will go that route. But I really don't want to have to do this again later, so paying for peace of mind is definitely being considered here.
Decisions, decisions...

Vinyl film is easier and you shrink it, thus the use of hairdryer or heatgun.
With urethane you strech it and hairdryer is not recommended.
Anyway, do it right or don't do it at all. To nice of a car to put crap on it. But, it is only my believe, you may have a different opinion.
Good luck, Mark.
Hmm...It sounds like a fun thing to try at least once. However, I am leaning more to letting someone install it. That way, no matter what, it's taken care of. Even a few years down the road.
Hmm.. I think Xtremecity clear bra material is only 2 mil thick. Correct me if I'm wrong but the materials I got from them seemed pretty cheap, I didn't even bother to install it.

Just for reference. I ordered the bra, install kit, and 2 extra feet of material. $30.xx in shipping charges. Actual cost, probably $8 and less than 5 minutes of time.
Typical ebay BS inflated shipping covering profit so they can sell the items cheaper. Still the shipped price isn't bad. I would just be happier if they were upfront and charged $50 for the stuff and $10 for the shipping.

I'm affraid that the line where the clear bra ends will be much more noticable and leave the hood of the car a different shade of the original color over time. Has anyone had a clear bra on one of their cars for 2 years or more? Any opinions on the matter?
Mark 3M Bra Man,
Sorry I missed your responses somehow when I posted my last.
Thanks for the great info. Since you apparently work for 3M, can you tell me if Aeroguard and TransGuard are the same products? Both urethane? So they can be removed and reapplied if necessary with no visible damage/difference, as long as we take care of them and the unprotected finish?

I do not work for 3M. I am an independent installer who through 5 years of installations kept going through different films and kept returning to the 3M product. In my opinion, it is simply the best.
Even though, there are films that can initially look little better, they do not have the life span like the 3M does.
To answer you question, though, the Aeroguard and TransGuard are different than the ScotchGuard. This film has been developed specifically for the automotive industry. I do not have enough knowledge about the other ones to raise my opinion.
Good luck with your TL,
Mark.

However, the 3M website refers to the clear bra as Aeroguard, and the 3rd-party applicator who installed my clear bra has literature which refers to it as Transguard/"3M manufactured with 3M materials." Now this is really getting confusing. Haven't seen anything about ScotchGuard.
ClearGuard
StoneGuard
and many others
Often those names are created for marketing purpuses, and in the unknown industry confuse the customer which gives more selling power to the installer.
There are million names for the clear bra. The most common film used on the market is 3M, and because of all the confusion and so many different names, some installers/sellers sell crap like the vinyl film and make people believe it is the same thing.
3M makes different material for the automotive, aviation and marine industry. The most common name used by 3M is ScotchGuard. It is on all the literature, boxes with film, etc.
Catch ya,
Mark.
I watched a 3M video and the heatgun was used on the fingers. I didn't use on in my install. I am curious to know if people are using a felt squeegie and whether others have had to use a lot of stretching for their install?
