baking (heating them up) softens the adhesive that seals/glues the pieces together. you'll want to get some kind of a heat gun if you don't bake them, but baking them would be infinitely easier as the entire seal is softened instead of one small section at a time.
You will regret using a heatgun over sticking your headlights in the oven. The oven heats the entire seal evenly, where as the heatgun will only apply heat to the spot you're pointing at. By the time you get all the way around, the first spot has already cooled.
I used a heat gun and found it to be easier than the oven. I used an oven for a projector conversion I did on my old Legend. They both work well; just a personal preference. If you use the heat gun just be patient and run the heat gun all the way around the seam until it softens, then just pry away with a screwdriver. Here is my thread on my black out and zkw swap.
