Clarification on the supercharger release from Comptech

Just spoke w/ Nate at CT:

August 31st = expected release date for 6-spd version of the 'charger.

A couple months later, the 5AT version should be available.

They're expecting similar, to slightly higher gains from both versions of the blower, price point will be very close to last generation's model.

That seems very quick. I wonder if you would need to upgrade the clutch to handle the extra abuse...

Peter, any actual numbers they are hoping to hit?

Nate is a nice guy, but in all the dealings I have had with him, he is not very accurate ever...this is especially problematic because the contacts that I have had with him have been as a retail distributor as opposed to a consumer...even in that capacity, her has been less than helpful. In fact, according to the little conversation I had with him during the trade only days at SEMA in Los Angeles, the supercharger was supposed to be out this month.

Anyway, now that I have vented a bit....I hope this is accurate and something comes soon.

Supercharger sounds great, but in the mean time I just installed an Injen cold air intake and sent my ECU off to Jet Performance. I got everything put back together Tues, 07/20. I can honestly say that I am pleasantly suprised with the increased power.

They don't have any info on their webpage about the 04 TL chip upgrade. Got any details? HP change, fuel economy change, cost?

I know what a SuperCharger is and does. I understand the CAI, but what I don't understand is what the "04 TL CHIP upgrade" is?

Can anyone explain?

The "chip' or recalibration of the stock ECU adds 13 -14 horsepower and 9-10 ft lbs of torque at the wheels. The Injen intake claims to add 8-12 hp. I have not had a chance to run it on a dyno but I plan to. Since I have an Automatic, dead stop take off's are still a bit sluggish, however, mid and upper rpm perfomance increases are significant.

FORGOT.... Fuel milage has actually increased by 3-4 MPG on the highway and I cannot tell you what "normal" driving would produce in the city. (I cannot keep my foot out of it long enough). My guess it will remain about the same unless you have a heavy foot. Air/ fuel mixtures changed with recalibration of the ECU meaning it dumps more fuel during hard acceleration.

Cost, you will love this, $255 for the intake and $225 for the "chip". I did spend $40 overnighting my chip since I did not what to be out of a vehicle for more than a couple days.

Yep, you gotta dyno it - especially to verify JET's claims. Did you baseline? I saw +8hp peak between dyno's after the Injen.

Anyone know where we might be able to buy an extra chip? Similar to Zipp's suggestion for the lights, might be worth it to have a Forum spare ECU Chip around so people dont have to be without their car while the chip upgrade is in progress.

PS: I know I'm a total loser for asking and not Googling, but whats the average price of the 2nd Gen TL SC from CompTech? I wont be able to buy till next April or so anyway, so a month or 4 late doesnt bother me as much as others.

I got the chip from Jet Performance. It is better to go through one of there vendors since the vendors is about $74 cheaper, $225 vs $299. I realize there is no reference to the chip on their site but all you have to do is call and they will provide a "Jet Chip" vendor in your area. The vendor will send you a kit in which you will mail your ECU to Jet Performace.
Once Jet gets your chip they have a 24 hour turnaround. Make sure you are around when the package is suppose to arrive because it does require a signature.

You can get an additional ECU through your local dealer. The cost...around $550.

The ECU is located underneath the center console. Remove some of the upholstry plastics, peel back the carpet and follow the wiring harness. One bolt on each, the passanger and driver side.

Cost $299 thru Jet Performance $225 through one of their vendors. (Didn't sound right to me either)

I added a CAI and a chip at the same time. I cannot say which made the difference but the car runs real well. A sigificant improvement over stock.

BigBri:

If you do decide dyno your car, please post up the results. Although you don't have a baseline to compare with, I'm still a curious to see the dyno. Thanks.

Aegir:

Thanks for the colorful explanation in the above posts. Now THAT explains everything...

BIGBRI - If you really wanted to understand the difference you could go get the car dyno'd "as is" with all the stuff installed and then later remove the stuff and have it re-dyno'd. Would give you a good idea of the addition. Dyno's are normally aroud $50 here so it's another $100. Do you (or any of your friend) happen to have a G-tech device? That's a nice alternative to formal dyno's. Since your is a auto like mine I'd be interested in your results. I am thinking about the AEM unit once it's out and like the chip idea. Can you PM me the info on the name of the Jet Performance "vendor" you used so that I can talk to them about doing mine?

what are the specs of this supercharger kit? with an 11:1 cr i would think boost would have to be kept to a minimum for people to be running pump gas on the stock internals

As we sit the supercharger is still slated for August. I apologize for my lack of accuracy and my inability to help you as far as dates go. I can only go by the information I have at that moment and what I've been told. We sometimes miss the projected dates on brand new applications due to so many things that can go wrong or need to to be further developed. If you would like to get updates you are more than welcome to call or email me and I'll happily keep you as up to date as possible.

Not an option. The ECU was sent off to Jetchip in CA. for recalibration and it cost a few $$$.

Sorry, missed a couple of your questions.....
The place I used was Ace Speed 1-877-333-7220. It is a 65001 upgrade kit.
I do not have a G-tech device. In fact I never heard of one.

I think I finally located a local dyno shop. I am going to call tomorrow and see when they get me in. I will not have a baseline, only modified results.

Yes it does, if Acura can prove that it was caused by the aftermarket product. With a supercharger, it affects a lot of mechanicals, so if damage is caused it will most probably void your manufacturer warranty.

well all i know is that if i was to have my acura dealer install the SC, my car is still covered under warenty and even if the SC blows or something, my acura dealer will replace it under warenty.

if you were refering to the jetchip, then yes if they can prove that the chip did it, then by by warenty and get ready to shell out the bucks
