I'm pretty sure this topic has been brought up before and the general consensus was that they are bad....Do a search...

From personal experience, my sister's boyfriend put one of these chips in his Mustang and it ended up fucking up his emissions. The car ran fine (no better or worse than pre-chip) but the engine light came on and he had to remove the chip and get the code cleared.

If Acura could have <edit>: SAFELY </edit> added 15+ horsepower for a small price of $25-$100 that these chips range, i can guarantee they would have. That is a lot of power they could use against competition. Just my

I'll have to disagree with the guy above me. A good chip manufacturer can do just about anything. I honestly believe there just isn't a large enough market for a chip maker to really want to do this.

VW's have plenty of chips out there for them APR, REVO, Unitronics, GIAC, and a few more. They all give about 30-40 hp increase some more some less depending upon who you go with. Some others have the ability do special things. On my old vw (APR chip btw) I had the ability to switch programs from a valet mode to stock mode to 93 oct mode to 100 oct race mode. All handled via the cruise control stalk. I also had the cat delete option on my car so I could run without a cat and still have no CEL. And its plenty safe there are plenty of guys with 100k miles or more with chips in the vw/audi scene.

I had 75k miles on my vw when I traded it in with roughly 70k miles with the chip. The only problems I had with the car were not chip related.

That is some SERIOUS stuff! Like i said, i just know the chip messed with my sister's BF's car. But, he didn't really mod anything else and i'm pretty sure he just had it dropped in. It seems like what you are talking about are much more than the $100 chips you can buy on E-Bay (Which is what i assumed the OP was asking about)...

Yes yes much more than that. I think what you are talking about I would call a piggyback type system. These chips I speak of are flashed via the OBD II port and range in price from about $400-$800 depending upon how many features and programs you purchased. My APR chip also had CEL reset abilities and throttle body alignment abilities with security lock out so no one could change anything unless they knew my 3-6 digit code. And alot are turbo cars in the vw/audi lineup but they do more than just up the boost. They program the chip to increase boost while also adjusting for timing and fuel. Its not just a hack job.

Exactly what i figured. This is an all-encompassing system which actually takes into account the rest of the car's features. The chips you purchase off E-Bay claim 15+ additional HP, but if you are just plug+playing, i can't see how that would be good for the car. But, your type sounds badass. Would be pretty sweet if they were available for the TLs...

I know from experience that ECU chips can be a good thing. I had one in my previous car (Ford Focus ZX3) and it was great. I got a gain of 12hp better gas milage and the shift points were differnet. The chip I had was made by a company called Diablo sports.

This has been visited multiple times. ECU chips are a waste of money unless you have forced induction. There is now way a chip that adds 15+/- HP, alters timing, fuel/air, etc.... can cost $25 or any other stupid low price like you see on EBAY. Any reputable chip company (DiabloSPort, Superchips,etc...) will run you $250 plus. These companies can do amazing work with chips. I had a DiabloSport chip on my 03 Cobra w/ 12lb pulley, full exhaust , and Steeda CAI. Willie from DiabloSport got 472rwhp(550+/- crankshaft) for me. They can push the setting from mild to wild.

Everyone here on Azine says that ECU on the Tl can't just be reflashed/programmed. Save your money.

try diablo sports...you will get some gain, but I dont know if its really going to be cost effective. As mentioned above chips make a HUGE difference on blown/turbo engines...but minimal on a NA car. Ive had them on my diesel trucks...but I wouldnt bother for a minimal gain in my car....its your money though...do as you please

ac08doll...is this a joke thread?

I understand if you had a turbo (german car), chipping makes sense...on a TL?

Don't believe the hype of making your TL faster with a chip, you might as well add a type-s decals, I hear it gives +15hp

Awesome! your whole car will be covered with decals, I have a lot of girls

Don't be rude on the forums, or I'll catch you in real life

Modify you car properly without the chip...add exhaust...add pulleys...and you will beat your friend, and you car will outlast his....if chipping had a purpose, I highly think that the #1 engine maker in the world (Honda) would by now utilize your suggestion of simply remapping the system.

PS Where can you actually speed in NYC?

Heard that before. "I did something really sweet to my car and now it's fast as hell - but I'm not gonna tell you what I did".... "Can't show you either otherwise you'll want one".

I got some metal duct tape I could sell ya - racing strips add way more horses than type-s decals do. Plus it's kind of shiny - so you can attract your own chicks.

in my experience, remapping or "chipping" only makes dramatic differences on turbocharged vehicles. i've heard nothing of a remap for a TL.

intake will give you between 1 and 2 hp.

get cold air directly from the outside will provide the optimum boost. Intakes in my opinion, are there for sound and looking good.

I would safely say that if you're looking at modding - an intake is the first thing you should be looking at performance wise. Some people may say lowering, but I don't think anyone would suggest to go out and buy a set of headers or exhaust for your first mod.

As for the actual HP increase, I can't say what you actually gain, but I can tell you that you will be able to notice the difference.

I was able to put down 215hp at the wheel. Now I don't know what I was at before the CIA, but I'm happy with it. I have a K&N typhoon kit ftw

And I suppose exhaust will only give another 1 or 2 HP?

the most i've seen advertised on an intake was something like +25 hp, but that was on a Ram.

I think most intakes (from what i've read) can give you between 5-8 extra hp AT THE CRANK.

so in reality, i doubt it's that much, maybe +4 or something at most at the wheels.
