Chipped headlight cover

Hey fellow TLers,

I went to wash my car today for the first time this year, and noticed a small chip in the front headlight cover. It looks like a very small rock impacted it and is now stuck/embedded in the hard plastic cover. I don't think I've seen that happen before on my other cars, so I'm a little concerned. I wonder if the headlight plastic will crack open, or will water or humidity get into the headlight housing area and cause damage to the electronics. Is it possible to replace the clear plastic cover holding the headlights or do I have to replace the entire unit which I'm sure is $$$? Has this happened to anyone else? First iit was the peeling paint on my front bumper, then the thin paint that chips easily, and now it's the plastic parts...what gives on an otherwise outstanding car.

look on ebay for a replacement, or talk to your insurance. they may cover it, since they do cover cracked windshields caused by a rock chip, etc.

i know 2G TL's fogs had almost a glass-like cover, but you're the first whose headlight cracked from a rock chip... that's some bad luck. well, headlight replacement will be costly ($500~ oem), so i suggest you look on ebay. this seems like a good time to clear the headlights, too.

if you do replace it yourself it will give you an excuse to clear. Is this something a rock blocker would have stopped?

Hmmm...never heard of them before, but thanks for the tip. I'll probably go order some now. Small pebbles are so dangerous to this fragile car!!!

I have the Xpel headlight covers on and they are 40 mil thick. Twill protect from small rocks and from the hazing that happens to plastic headlights. Very easy to install.

They are 40? So you are saying you can put two fingers togeth and it sticks out taht far. That would look like crap. may as well duck tape a brick in front of em. I can say, from the picture I saw on the website, they are not 40 Mil thick.
