Changed the courtesy lights

Well I changed them, blues for the doors and whites for the front and rear domes, WLED-B6/W6. It took about 8 minutes, the hardest part is pulling out the stock bulbs. I have yet to see them at night, but when I do I'll comment on the color and brightness change.

Does anyone know about the size bulbs in the visor, glovebox, center/armrest compartment, and the trunk? I would be interested in changing these out, if I can get some information.

The visor's used the same 6-LED as I used elsewhere. WLED-6 as I recall. There is a trick to doing the visors - they are more of a pain than the other bulbs - Iposted how to do it somewhere.

As to the other bulbs, I do not use them enough to care much about them. But you will really like how the interior lights look at night - blueish/white. Nice. I have seen some flickering on occasion with both doors open (Blue LED's) and all the interior on.

I do not see the hard part of removing the bulbs - I use a long-nose pliers and light pressure on the jaws, and out they come.

I recently did the change also. I have a blue w6 LED in the trunk and the same bulb fit. the trunk actually is very poorly lit with the w6 bulb so i wouldn't go with that. btw your gonna be happy with the finished product at night. it looks AMAZING. the doors look slightly funny during the day with the random blue circle, however at night you have your door slightly open the whole front-side of your car lights up blue. it looks great.

The glove compartment and the center armrest take the 74 LED bulb . I changed them they don't really add that much light, but if you are just going for consistency I guess it's worth it.

OK so it took me long enough. Here are some pictures,

Day, Blue door light close-up:

Day, Blue Door:

Night, Blue Door:

Day, White Dome:

Night, White Dome:

Night, Through passenger door:

Night, Through rear window:

I think it looks great. It is amazing how many compliments I get on the door lights, and especially the dome lights. About how high tech and well tied in to the rest of the car it looks. Most people think its stock and still have commented on it. Definately not ricer, goes extremely well with the rest of the lights.

Aspector,
Looks great!! How many LEDs are needed for each door and each dome? Also, are these available at Home Depot or local shops? Thanks!

The bulbs have 6 leds on them. I used two blue, one for each door, and four whites two for the front domes and two for the rear domes.

I ordered them from superbrightleds.com it cost $26 total.

I see you took pics of the white dome lights, werent they white in the 1st place? or yellow-ish....You left them the same I assume? I also do not understand what the rear dorm lights are and what you did there as well, but the blue looks great on the doors.

Looks very nice and now I am going to change mine just like yours. Except I will be changing just the doors and the two front and rear interior lights. Can you tell me the model number of the blue(for the doors) and white bulb(interior lights) please.

So no special tool to take the light case off right??

The incadencent OEM bulbs give off a yellowish hue. The super white leds in the front and rear lights acyually give off a slight blueish hue.

Valfarre- I have another complete set of bulbs, exactly what I put in, if interested pm me.

Gadget,

Do you think the white leds put out as much useable light as the stock bulbs? I want to do this, but want to make sure there is at least the same amount of light in the passenger areas.

The blue door lights are a done deal. Thanks for sharing this info!

IL TL: I can't tell you which is brighter, they are too similar. I did not notice a dimming or brightening. I think the 6 led bulbs are very close to the stock illumination. And yes, you can read by them.

Do the LEDs still behave the same way incadescent bulbs do? I like the way the intensity of the stock bulbs are reduced once the doors are closed as well as the fade to black when the ignition is turned. I thought that LEDs are either on or off, with no in between.

They act exactly the same way as the stock bulbs, as you described.

For those that have done the mod already with the WLED-6 bulbs, do you think there's an extra 1/4 inch clearance behind the covers? I was looking to get the 9-LED bulb which shares the same base as the WLED-6 but is 1/4 inch longer and brighter as well. I just don't know if it'll fit.

I saw someone on eBay selling 9LED bulbs but I don't know what those dimensions are.

To CosmoKid: Most auto parts stores won't stock these LED replacements. Some chains are just starting to stock LED bulbs for tail lights but I don't think I've seen any for the interior yet.

Cosmo Kid: I agree with Brokedoc. The best place to find them is on the internet. I bought mine from superbrightled.com, that is the part number for them.

Brokedoc: Search the forum. I know that some people have used 9-Leds. 6 is bright enough for me, but to each his own.

Those pics look sweet. Has anyone done any changes to the license plate bulb? Does changing that to blue bulb/led look too ricey? Or changing it to a white LED look better?

Heck, is that light even an LED (I am at the office so I can't check right now)?

I thought this page was kinda useful too:
http://www.superbrightleds.com/specs/bulb_specs.htm

I am definitely going to change the door and dome lights after seeing those shots.

Thanks in advance.

Hey guys. Since I'm not in my car right now, I was just wondering... do the rear doors have lights in them too? I'm ordering from superbrightleds.com right now, but I was wondering if I should order 2 x WLED-B6 or 4 x WLED-B6 for the doors? Thanks!

All:
I used Brian at Techtoyz Brian D. (briand@mycingular.blackberry.net) for my LEDS (see sig) and the look is real nice w/o being rice. Brian is real good and efficient. I just ordered 6's for my visors.

Good luck and Road Rage I'll hunt down your post for how to do the visors.

my order for 2 wled-b6 and 4 wled-w6 came in today. i installed the 2 in the bag in my doors and they lit up blue.

i installed the 2 maplights, turned them on, and they are blue

i guess sometimes while lighs look a little blue, but these really look blue. i checked the bag and the sticker said white, but i can swear they are blue.

i plan on checking them out when it gets dark.

how blue should they be?
