Certificate of Origin
Picking up my TL next week from out of state. DMV here in Maryland says I need to bring a certificate of origin with me when I want to register it and get my tags. Asked my dealer, and he gave the me the typical "uh, yeah, sure, we'll give you that, no problem" response - made me nervous.
Anyone buy their car out of state and get one of these things? Did you have any problems, or am I just being paranoid?
Thanks!

Don't sweat it. All new cars do not have titles. The have an MSO (Manufacturers Statement of Origin). The title clerk will get it sent to you or the DMV in time. If you do have any problem,s getting it, cvall your dealer and ask to talk to the title clerk. Cut right through all the red tape!

In NC, the DMV needs it in order to identify if you paid taxes on the car when you bought it. If it's an in-state car, the dealers HAVE TOO collect taxes on the sale. If it's an out of state car, you don't pay the taxes UNTIL you register it in your home state. THEN they hit you with the bill. Both my last two cars were out of state purchases and each cost me around $1,500 in taxes when I registered the car in NC.
