Car seats wearing out

Car seats wearing out
Got a 2007 TL used with 37k miles (certified pre-owned) a few months ago. The driver's seat had some wear on it. It is now annoying me a lot lol. Do you think a dealership would consider this and replace or do something with the leather? Still has about 9 months on warranty.

wear and tear item. acura isn't known for its "leather". a lot of us have issues with it.
best thing to do is just clean and condition it often. that'll stop it from fading and cracking.

google lexol leather cleaner/conditioner. zaino also has a nice line of leather treatment.
I feel your pain tho, my back seats and passenger seat look brand new...but the drivers seat is pretty jacked up. I have an 07 as well, with 52k.
they have since improved after I started conditioning them regularly...plus the stuff smells good too!

The weird thing is my passenger seat looks almost as bad as my driver's seat and the driver's seat gets used 1,000% more. It seems like mine did most of the aging in the first year or two and it's slowed down since.
When these cars were newer there were a few people that got the seats replaced under warranty. It's doubtful at this age.

i have about the same mileage little more but anal about interior leather.
I been using zaino products on my S2000 red seats 20k miles later still in great condition.I started only using zaino leather and conditioner on the TL about a month ago and can notice the change already.

OP leather wear is not warranty under CPO program, however I would give them a call to see if they will replace at good will. like everyone else said, just use leather condition regularly to keep your leather in good shape, Acura/Honda has the sh*tiest leather seat compare to Nissan and Toyota, if your leather is black then it is not a big issue however if you own a Taupe interior like me then the problem with cracking/fading x3 (not to mention the dye agent is suck too).

it's a car-drive it
mine does also-One of the main reasons I did not buy the tsx when it 1st came out-the 04 milano red only had light interior. Glad I waited to get the ebony interior. Still looking excellent after almost 137K miles.

I have a spray bottle of soapy water and a spray bottle of clean water that I clean my interior with. Just spray on the soapy, wipe it down a little, spray on the water and then wipe down. I used to use leather cleaner and conditioner, but it always seemed like armor-all leaving the seats shiny and somewhat greasy. I'm not really sure why I started doing it this way but I think it works really well. The seats look great after they're cleaned that way.

Black leather does a great job of hiding wear, dirt, and age. Dont get me wrong, it's not a bad thing.
Just take a picture with flash on (a real camera, not a cellphone) and you'll see its true condition :P

I had used Lexol cleaner/conditioner on my '05 since I had bought it new. Now that I had gotten a used '07, the previous owner wasn't as meticulous with the interior as I was with mine. So, it's going to take a lot of TLC to get it back to like-new condition again. I had gotten Meguir's leather cleaner/conditioner to see how that compares to Lexol.

hell with this Taupe interior, if my seat ever tear I would just go and buy two tone leather and swap instead.

Interesting. I would have to disagree with the Leather being crap in these cars. I have an 07 TL 100,000 miles with Taupe leather and it still looks new, even the driver seat.

Previous gen leather was thicker/heavier though.

Hm
My grey leather (05) is absolutely perfect. I have always used Meguires gold class leather cleaner/conditioner probably twice a month.. Plus I carry the meguires whipes in my trunk.. I don't think the leather is very good though, it seems really thin or something.. My rsx is even worse.. Cheap cheap leather on the Rsx.
My suggestion, keys and wallet out of the pocket, be easy getting in and out.. Park in the shade, use sun visors, or get tinted windows. Clean and condition every couple car washes.. Don't date chicks that wear diamond studded jeans, and if you do then spray them down with leather conditioner before u let them in

I've been going through my new '04 for over a week now and the last TLC needed is the back leather seats and a scrubdown of the blackened exhaust tips.
I'm on my second container of Meguires and it's been doing a good job on the Camel interior. I started cleaning as per their directions, but now my process to clean seat is as follows:
On my light colored interior, this has done very, very well. The original owner took reasonably good care of the seats, but there were definitely trouble areas. Now 8 years later, I'm the guy cleaning it up. The above method has given me results I'll take a picture of later today, but I am much happier.
I am not certain how well this would work for darker colored leathers, as the bleaching effect of my cleaner may stand out more?
Also - does anyone have a method to bond an area where the leather is torn? While it's a smaller area, it looks like something was put on the back seat and caught one of the small perforated holes in the leather, playing 'connect the dots' with about 10 holes, ripping right through. Any fix?
Thanks, and I hope my cleaning method that slowly evolved out of 4 days of cleaning the leather helps some of you.
I'm on my second container of Meguires and it's been doing a good job on the Camel interior. I started cleaning as per their directions, but now my process to clean seat is as follows:
- Try quick rub with clean towel or fingernail to see if dirt rubs off
- Try the same with a Q-Tip
- For every stubborn stain/crack, I apply enough Meguires on top so I can not see leather through cleaner.
- Let sit for 20-60 seconds MAX. Typically I'll start to feather or 'paint' outwards from spot with Q-Tip after 20 seconds or so, to avoid 'bleached' look.
- Rub lightly from multiple angles until stain is removed. Push Q-Tip more into leather for stubborn stain - but vary the angle as not to damage leather.
- Essentially the same process for cracks/folds, but I will try to follow the crack with the Q-Tip, and pull the side of the leather parallel to the crack as to stretch leather and flatten crack. DO NOT DO THIS IF LEATHER IS TORN. If you start seeing a darker/base color of leather - LEAVE IT ALONE. In that spot, the dye is likely gone for good.
- --Once I've cleaned/conditioned out the crack, it is generally undetectable to human eye unless you're 2 inches away - even on driver's side. The exception are a few long, obvious cracks.
- Wipe away any remaining cleaner.
- Leave the area alone for a few minutes and work on other areas of the seat.
- --Eventually you may see some 'bleached' areas of leather from the detailing/spot treatment. This can be resolved.
- When spot cleaning is finalized on the entire seat, do one final coat to condition and color-match 'bleached' areas. Here I squeeze the bottle and lay out a few lines of the cleaner about the width of the area, about 2-3 inches apart. It's a pretty good amount of cleaner.
- QUICKLY begin swirling and dabbing the lines with a cotton ball to apply an even, translucent coat of the cleaner. Dab a little extra around the 'bleached' spot clean areas if necessary.
- Let it sit for 15 seconds. Mush it all around a bit more, so there's an even coat still on top of the entire leather piece, but not any globs of cleaner stationary long enough to make a noticeable stain.
- --At this point the cotton ball will likely be saturated with cleaner, and it's getting on your fingers. The cleaner might cause cancer in CA, but here in NJ I don't think it's too toxic.
- After another 20 seconds or so, get a clean old t-shirt/rag and wipe everything off. Much of it has already worked itself into the leather so there's not too much to come off.

to be honest, seat wear is mostly due to weight on the seat, for example, the weight of the driver. if you're a lightweight like me you never have to worry about worn out leather seats, but if you're a heavyweight then worn out leather seats will always be a problem
