Car and Driver test A-Spec

Hi guys,

Just got my May issue of C&D and noticed that they had tested the 6MT A-Spec TL. They praised the package for its ability to remove the underdampened nature of the suspension while retaining a nice ride. They also praised the suspension for reduced roll on turns and "eliminates the occasional lunging that affect the standard TL." But as C&D will have it, they again commented on the torque steer found in the lower gears on uneven surfaces and was somewhat neutral for recommending the package as a whole due to only modest gains. Here are the test specs...

0-60 5.6 sec
5-60 6.2 sec
1/4 mile 14.3@99mph
top speed 152 (drag limited)
Braking (70-0) 174 feet (attributed to cold test conditions...160ft previously)
Skidpad 300ft .90g (.89g with 17 inch summer tire option)

Yeah, it's probably due to the cold weather conditions where the car was tested...air is therefore denser making more horsies....maybe the driver was on a diet :toothless Who knows!

C&D bias must be real because they drove it like they hated it!

Pretty impressive to see this car putting up those kinds of numbers.

Very impressive numbers. C & D will never love the TL because of the front wheel drive. Hopefully Acura will put together SH AWD for the TL and then I think there won't be anything to not like.

I agree, but don't bet on it. C&D's reviewers seem hell-bent on being unhappy w/the TL.

The SH-AWD should create greater balance for the car and address their greatest criticism, vis-a-vis FWD. Imagine, a better handling TL--almost seems impossible! :smokin:

maybe that was going downhill with some tail wind. 5.6 is really low for the TL. i mean the darn thing is 3500 lbs. i never timed myself but i have a 6MT and i don't think i could ever achieve that time on a flat surface with my el42's hehehehe.
