car break-ins

I have been having problems with break-in (twice in the past year). I own a 2004 Acura TL. On both occassions, there was no visible sign of forced entry. I am curious as to if anyone have fallen victim to this.

thanks.

Welcome to the forum, but sorry to meet you under these circumstances.

I don't remember any posts with this problem, so maybe some people with this experience will share with us.

Wow - stinks to be your first post too. Bad area, airport etc. or right in the driveway?

I do remember a thread a while back where some guy said someone was trying to steal his TL from his driveway, but his neighbor saw the guy and he bolted.

That's the only instace I remember of someone saying it was broken into/stolen/attempted to be stolen/etc.

Anyway, welcome to the forum!

Hi Debi, welcome to the forum.

If there was no (visible) sign of forced entry, how did the bastards break in?? Although the factory alarm system is practically worthless, it does go off should the doors be unlocked w/o the key/fob.

It was broken into twice outside my house. I am extremely curious as to how the theif got in. I have contacted my acura dealer and he stated that his T.L. was broken into without any sign of force entry. I wanted to see if there was some sort of default with the keyless entry or de-scrambler of some sort. Let me know if you have heard of similar situations. I have also emailed Acura regarding the situation but have not heard back.

I was the person who almost got their car stolen in their driveway. I agree with everyone else who says that the stock alarm is pretty much worthless. Are you sure you locked the car and did not rely on the auto lock? I've heard of some instances that the auto lock will not work and thus leaving your car virtually open to anyone.

There is no auto lock which will lock the doors after you exit the car. This is often confused with:

1. The automatic locking feature programmed into the MID when you shift from Park or go over 10 mph, or

2. The security relock timer, which will lock your doors after the preset time if you unlock the doors but don't open a door.

trust me, both time was lock. Especially the last time, I was going on a trip and double check to see if the car was locked. Anyway, it doesn't appear to be a very common problem with any of you. I will look into other avenues to address this concern. Thanks for the feedback.

Thats strange. I won't ask the obvious question because I am sure you did lock your doors. The only thing I can think of is that someone got your VIN and went to an Acura dealer and requested a new key to be cut. One of my friends got his SUV stolen like that. dealers don't check to see if the person is legit or not, so anybody dressed decently can go to a dealer and get a key for your car. this happens a lot in Atlanta.

Eventhough the TL key needs an embedded chip to actually start the car, I don't think anything will prevent them from getting inside your car with the key. I could be wrong, but thats all I can think of at the moment.

Debi -

My 04 TL and 05 TL have both been broken in with no signs of forced entry. I park my car on the street in SF. The second time this happened, I'm POSITIVE I locked my car. It was parked right outside my bedroom window which was open during the night it happened. Unfortunately, I had locked my glovebox and the little bastard did about $2000 worth of damage to my dash (I have pics - will add later) He couldn't open the GB - looks like its more difficult to enter than my car. My dealer said he has not heard any similar complaints. He did say that the code is not "rolling" and I read somewhere on this site that the # of codes is not large (not sure of this - anyone??). A car alarm shop told me that someone with a code blaster thing could cycle thru codes and crack the alarm because of the limited number and the lack of a lock out feature should multiple codes be sent.

You should change the code on your alarm - the dealer can do this in 10 seconds (process of alternating turning the key from off to accy and hitting the alarm buttion on the remote - didn't pay attention, really). I've also been thinking about an aftermarket alarm - just have not had the time to do it yet.

I'm curious - anyone else have this problem???

I guess if someone wants to get in they will. Good luck with the car.

Here is another interesting detail I didn't mention - both my car doors and trunk were opened, however, my glove box was locked and the button to open the trunk was locked. They never got into my glove box to unlock the trunk, so how did they open the trunk? If I would have left my car unlocked (which I'm positive I didn't), they wouldn't have been able to get into the trunk.

Hmmm the trunk popper isnt in the glovebox, it's on the underside of the dash. (At least in the '05) So how was it locked?

U can lock the latch to the trunk in the glove box, so that the trunk doesn't open from the trunk popper near the drivers seat.

If the trunk latch thing is locked so u can't open it from inside, can u still open it with the remote? If so I would say someone def. used the remote to do it, in which case I would get your remote reprogramed or consider an aftermerket alarm.

Acura TL Break In

This is a mystery. I am online now because I am trying to figure out if anyone else has had their Acura TL 04 "mysteriously" broken into...without any sign of forced entry. I've had two break-ins in the last 2 weeks. I am in SF too. They've happened in very short times (less than 2 hours) in public spots without the alarm going off, so I can only think someone has figured out how to pop the trunk.

welcome to the forums and thanks for searching. Anyway, alot of us have discovered that a theif can get the code that the remote transmits to unlock the car. when you leave and lock it, they reproduce it, disarming the alarm and also getting in to the car.

both acura dealers and the honda dealer i have worked @ all make you bring in some kind of proof stating that you own the veh.(i.e. insurance card, title, drivers license, etc.) before making/programming any key to any vin. however, all dealers are different and maybe just dont care just to make $. plus, if someone did duplicate your key, it would then need to be programmed or added to your immobilizer system. finally, if a key was in fact made, programmed, etc., acura would have record of it because whenever you add a key or loose your key, whoever makes it has to login and put in their personal ID, your vin, and the last 4 numbers of the persons(@ dealer w/access) S.S.#. this "should be" traceable to my knowledge. dont quote me on the traceable part though.
