Car Alarm Question

This may seem like a silly question, but why would a car alarm installer need your keys to install an alarm. I am considering the Viper 791 or the Ultra Start 4500 and both seem to require my keys???? Can someone explain to me please!!!

For the factory immobilizer. The key has a chip in it which is required in order for the vehicle to start. You are also putting a remote start. That is usually when they need to bury one of your keys.

I'll say it before others...do a search on the topic.

DOnt get an alarm its useless over what the car already has. If you live in a high crime area get lo-jack.

The keys are needed for programming only! I HIGHLY recommend the Viper over the Ultra Break. When they install the Viper they will use a 555H to bypass your factory immobilizer during the remote start sequence only. Thus leaving the immobilizer intact during normal everyday car use.

If you are considering LoJack check around. LoJack is WW1 technology and any car thief knows how to get by it. There is newer technology using GPS out there that is much better and Viper makes a 1020GPS that will interface with the 791.

Key to all of this is the installation. Find a good place to do the install!!!!!!!

I'm Batman-- did you use the 555h in your vehicle? Before when I inquired, they told me I'd have to use one of the other 555's that required a key to be buried. If you look, it does not list that it works with the 04TL.

All Lojack type devices send out a signal, that's how they work. Theifs have the simple equipment to scan a car and see if it's transmitting one of the frequencies that Lojack type devices use. When they find it they either pull the plug or dump the car.
