Can you add a Nav unit?
this is exactly why i got the navi, i know if i bought the non-nav i would want it later. i am not sure how easy it would be to install it into a non-nav. only reason is the voice commands. it integrates with your stereo and climate control. dunno if its a different module controlling that or not. i think the amount of money you would have to spend is WAY more than the $2K extra that acura was charging. my advice is if you want navigation get an aftermarket unit. just get lcd installed somewhere.
There's probably a lot more to adding NAV than just installing the NAV hardware itself. Doing it piecemeal like that is probably going to cost you WAY more than it would have if you had just bought it that way in the first place. It's probably WAY cost prohibitive to even consider that route.
I was looking at the price lists...and just the Navi unit (no antenna, voice button, harnesses, nothin') was over $2600 list. Here are some prices (not even all the parts for Navi are listed here) I found. The price on the left is list, on the right, the sales price from this particular vendor http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org/ .

I wanted navi but it wasn't available (massive shortage) and even when available, between the price and not getting a discount the Navi option would have costed $3000 (instead of $2000). Since I rent a lot of cars for business I already had a Garmin iQue PalmOS PDA (with built in WAAS GPS Navi) which cost about $600 with the base and 256MB memory card so I'm not missing it that much...except for the larger screen. But the fact that it's portable, has full PDA functions is more valuable to me than the screen size.

You can add an aftermatket. I have the Pioneer nav-sys dvd 610. It's a flip out 6.5 inch screen with in dash DVD player, and DVD nav with GPS tracking.
You may have been asking if you could install the acura nav unit in a non-nav after, so if that was your question, sorry for not being much help.

stock nav would also require your rear windshield (i think) to be replaced as the antenna for the gps is in the glass...
that's how it is on my maxima with nav... I haven't taken delivery of the TL yet so I haven't checked yet.

I spent about $2,500 getting navi from Germany to put in my Passat, Germany has a Navi option while US Passats don't.
It was pretty easy to do, it should be much easier for you since you won't have to try and find people in other countries to send you parts.
This is just one example of a navi install on a VW, search around that forum for many more.

So if someone's navi malfuctioned there is no possible chance to get it replaced, even if they pay for it?
Of course you can buy an Acura unit, you can buy any part of the car.

First, you can do "anything to a car", it's a matter of money and skill. A 2003 had non-nave cars was up graded to navi. This is what happend: a wrecked navi car was located and all the parts needed where harvested, I hear it was a 16 hour ordeal, a lot of headaches, but it can be done.
Personally, I would rather sale the car and purchase one with navi, if not, stick with what you have, everyone here always say "get the navi, get the navi" hope all you non-believers are listening...
