Title, registration and insurance must match.....if there is a total loss and names dont match, the insurance co can and may deny your claim.
I work for an insurance co and i have never given anyone insurance if the car wasnt registered in their name.

she is the registered owner and the bank is the lien holder
You can be added to her policy as 2nd driver but until the bank is paid they wont allow a change like you want

SHE is not the owner of the car- the LIENholder is the BANK
they own the car- all she can be is registered owner
CALL dmv and ask-
what are you trying to do anyway--?? scam the insurance?

you might have to check your local state laws. As because my TL is register under my name and insured under my mother policy. Then of course you need to add her as an extra driver in the policy just to cover your butt!

I was looking at the DMV site and you can do joint registration.

According to DMV in NY.. the registrant and the policy holders names must match. However the owner and the registrant dont need to match.

Also, to set the record straight, the bank is only a lienholder and NOT the owner of the car, with the car being the collateral for the loan. It becomes an unwilling owner after you default on car payment, the bank then gets a judgment against you, execute on the judgment, have the sheriff seize you car, auction off the car, and buy the car at auction. It is a loooong process before the bank becomes the owner.

my carrier at the current moment is NationWide. I had progressive and Geico with no problem.
Let me explain the my situation little better.
I have a Lien holder. But cars registration is under my name Joe doe.
Nationwide policy is under mother, Mrs Joe Doe.
Under Mother's pilicy is my Car VIN XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX01
You should have no problem putting HER car under your insurance policy.
Hope all is clear now

Insurance company don't car who's car it's as long as you give then your money. Lien holder don't care under who's policy it's as long as they get to see a declaration page from the insurance company saying that VIN # xxxxxxxxxxxxxx01 is being cover full whatever coverage their minimum are.

Lienholder - the bank- is the legal owner of the car- you make the payments so they let you drive it
You dont make the payments- they repo the car and sell it for what they can- and you still owe the balance of the loan differance
You dont own the car until the title is in your name- until then its the banks!
Why not just get your girl licensed

2 reasons-
1. Shes never driven before.... today i will let her drive this BS TSx they gave me as a loaner. She is scare to learn.
2. I don't want her Driving the TL dude.
