Can I get a TL with 8-9k??
Hi guys,
Yesterday, I got in an accident and I'm pretty sure my car is totaled. This stupid asian lady with her $80,000 Mercedes hit the accelerator instead of the gas and rear ended someone who t-boned my car. I had a 2001 CL Type S and it was my baby. It was my first car and I've only had it for like 6 months. No other car I've driven has been as amazing as this car and for my next car I want one just as amazing.
I've always loved the 3G TLs, and now that I'm in the market for a new car, I was thinking maybe I could get one. I haven't had the estimate for insurance yet, but I'd probably have 8 or 9 thousand to spend on a new car. Would it be possible to find a 3G tl for around that price?? Or what are some other cars comparable to my cl?
Thanks in advance!
P.S. I don't know if this helps, but I'm in the Seattle area.

I'm not too worried about the mileage. My cl had 162,000 on it and it ran great. Whoever had it before took really good care of it. I'm sure TLs would still be in good shape after 100,000 miles if they're taken care of enough

well if you get it private party, you may never really actually know how the owner(s) took care of the car.

sucks dude, I dunno if you can find a 3g TL for 8-9k though

Try those awesome craigslist deals.
No, but on a serious note, you can prob find one for around $13 with great mileage. Use $6K as a downpayment and the left over can be your payments untill you have a steady income (assuming you don't have one, or enough money for a car payment).
If you don't have money for a car payment, I doubt you will find a decent 3G TL in that price range.

You can probably get an 04 or 05 TL with 100K+ on it. If you do look into a TL with that high of mileage, make sure the Timing Belt and Water pump has been changed on them! Also check the transmission fluid and how it shifts!

Now I know I'm bucking the trend here and this is a TL board, but the OP might be better off with something other than a TL. Try getting a one or two year old Civic or something similar. Get something that will work for a while and start saving up for a TL, if that's what you want. I'd be fearful of spending 8-9k on a car that's 5-7 years old and has over 100k miles on it.

Would it possible to use some of that as a down payment & then finance one just a little bit higher?

Your price range is pushing it but you can get lucky. bought an 05 Tl 36,000 miles, clean title for 13.5K 4 months ago. I have seen private sale TLs do under 10K but all have over 150,000 miles. Cheapest clean title I saw in my area was 7K for an 04 TL with 250,000 miles. Honda makes amazing engines so I wouldnt worry about the engine breaking, but everything else may break: Trans, window motor, alternator, starter, fuel pump.

got mine for 9ks, 04 converted to type s (new 07-08 parts) infinity g37S 19", HR suspensions and alot of xtras. just look at graiglist you might find something worth it. Don't go by miles, go with how it feels and physical condition. My friend 350z with 28k has his engine rebuilt because of abuse, the car drive like crap i would not buy it not even for 5k, leather has to be replace because is full of cigarrette burn holes.
u can see mann222 which he has 200k on his vehicle and looks better than most of low miles tls out there.

+1! There is a difference between a previous owner that kept up with routine maintenance and didn't beat on the car, and one that you can see was abused and doesn't run as smoothly as you'd like. My

Okay thanks for the input everyone. It sounds like I'll be lucky if I can find one for my price, but I'll keep looking around and hope for the best
Some other cars I'm looking at are:
Another 2001 Acura CL (http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/1932316085.html)
Dodge Charger
Land Rover
Jeep Wrangler
Any BMW
Acura RSX or TSX
Any input on these cars?

Its funny that you made this post, as im also looking for a 3g tl within that price range, (give or take another 1-2k). As far as your other interest in cars i think it all depends on your taste.
lol unfortunately the only thing i'd take off that list (at the moment) would have to be the tsx, and if bmw's weren't so darn expensive to maintain i'd take a 335 =]
The Charger is nice, HUGE car....doesnt really handle as well as a TL though
Land Rover, Great SUV...MPG would suck i assume, and im sure the price for maintenance is much more than a TL
Wranglers? hmm not sure about that
RSX and TSX are both great choices, Sporty, great MPG, the rsx type s is a thrill to drive.

Land Rovers are huge pieces of shit, stay FAR AWAY. There is always something broken, you will be broke in less than 3 months with one of those things.
I would stay away from any German car that isn't under warranty as well.
No offense, but if your budget is under $10k, I think you are looking at the wrong types of cars. Get something cheaper to maintain, mateniance costs on a higher end nameplate that is out of warranty is going to be very high.

I think I'll look around for some cheaper cars or just buy the same kind of CL. I just wish I had my first car back

Yeah, you can get one for that price, but why? Its gonna be a pretty messed up car. A TL in that price range; nothing good will come from it.
For that price range... I suggest a RSX-S, or E36 M3 (Just cause I'm also a BMW fan) =)
