Camry SE or Acura TL?

Camry SE or Acura TL?
I have an '05 6MT NBP w/60,000 miles. My clutch leg has developed some arthritis, so I am ready for the automatic transmission. I have really done my homework, and it seems as though the Toyota Camry SE offers much more than the Acura TL for the price. The Type "S" suspension seems a little too stiff for many on this forum (especially older guys). It makes me want to consider the regular TL vs. the Camry SE. The Camry runs $29K, the TL runs $32K (w/o nav.). The Type "S" is way up there at $36,500.
I am interested in opinions of those that have tried out the Camry, or overall opinions. Don't need unnecessary flames, just some honest opinions.
Thanks!
Camry: 6 spd. auto, more room in many areas, better gas mileage on regular fuel, lower price, more HP/torque.
Acura: Longer warranty, more front head room, probably better handling, excellent service from my dealership.

I moved from a Lexus ES350 (i.e. Camry) after Lexus bought the vehicle back due to transmission flare issues. The flare is also present in many Camrys. I can only recommend that you research that Camry before you buy one. TL to me is easily the hands-down winner - fit, finish, drivetrain, engine - the whole package.

If you were to do a search on this, you would find that this topic has been well played out here and over at cartalk.
I'm in the same boat as you for AT, nerve damaged. I too looked at Camry, TL behind the wheel won hands down. Adding the Aspec suspension and RSB kills the Camry.

^^^ yeah at least some 2G TL trannys go for 100k or more miles. Do some research some of the trannys in the new camry wont even go for 1k miles. The camry is still a good car and I am sure once Toyota works out the issues it will be better.

I considered the SE 4 cyl against the TSX. I prefer good 4 cyls bc of gas mileage. Once I read about the tranny issues, the search was over. If I remember correctly, toyota doesn't make the tranny but buys it, and it is supposed to "learn" your driving ( like a good AT already does). My family is a toyota family- my sister has a 04 V6 solara, my dads had 2 runners and a highlander. Anyway, my opinion is that the camry doesnt have the ergonomics of an Acura. The way you fit in an Acura is unlike any Toyota. Other luxury brands have a similar effect, but I feel nothing in a Toyota. Like many say, it is an emotionless car- but the SE package tries to help with that. However, you dont seem like someone to buy on emotiont- just remember the TL's proven reliability and the camry's uncertainity. cough cough type s cough

Well first of all camry doesnt even compare to the tl. Compare it to the accord. Second of all even though toyota is a good name the acura is way more luxury and the technology is amazingly better. Even though the price on the tl is more you can still pick up the navigation for about $33,500. A tl would make my head turn that any camry on the road.

In terms of the Type-S having a harsh suspension, I would say that's not an issue.... especially if you have the stock All-Seasons. My 07 TL-S is much softer than my 02 TL-S, I would even dare say too soft in some cases.
Also I have the sleeping kid in the back seat test and it's a pretty smooth ride.
Had a Camry, the TL interior is really 2 notches above. Also with the TL-S honestly, you'll get some guys looking and wanting to race. With the Camry SE you'll get guys looking but as in "Who are you kidding with the SE part..."

I test drove a new Camry SE before I bought a 2006 Accord EX V6 Nav. Then 3 months later I traded in Accord for an 06 TL Nav. BIG difference. Then Motor Trend had a peak at the New 07 TL-S coming out soon. I traded the 06 TL Nav for my new 07 TL-S!!! WOW!!!
