Calling all Ebony Interiors...
I have a question about the Ebony interior. A couple people (including me) have voiced concerns over a faded, brownish, uneven fade on their dashboard - most noticeable on passenger side. (Nauseating on a sunny day to look over from driver seat and see it)
For those who have not complained - is your dash (in the sun - not a dark garage) the same uniform color etc. as the black on the doors? I detailed my whole interior this weekend. For the dash and like material on the doors I used the 303 Aerospace. Great stuff - may be better than Vinylex IMO, but my dash will not come anywhere near the same black rich look of the upper part of the doors where it is same texture material.
Just trying to get a feel here if mine is the only one, or if this is just the way it is - if so I rest my case, but it really looks bad.
So then my question is - are dashboards replaceable - meaning how many pieces does the dash come in? On my old cars, the part I am complaining about was a separate piece - like the "lid", if you will, to the dash. I am going to a different service department since my last one said they "detailed" the interior for me as their fix.
Is it possible to remove the top of the dash (obviously a lot has to come apart to get at it I'm sure), but just want to be intelligent and informed when I talk to dealer.
Anyboby with the shop manulas that show the dash in an exploded diagram?
Thanks.

Wait, isn't the top of the dash black on all interior colours? So if you got camel or any of the other colours the top is black and the lower half plus your seats etc are the colour you chose.
That's what I've seen anyways, that's why I chose ebony, because it looks so much nicer as one uniform colour than two colours...

I haven't noticed any shading like you describe. I HAVE noted that the perforated material that covers the instrument binacle and center stack is somewhat lighter than the surrounding area, but not visually problematic, IMO. I have also noticed that the color is not truly black, but more of a very dark grey - "Graphite" or "Charcoal", including the floor mats and carpeting. Everything same shade.
If you truly have a brownish cast to the top of the dash and you consider it a warranty item, how the dash is constructed should be of little concern to you. This is something you present to the dealer and request that it be corrected. It's up to them to fiure it out.

I am going to talk to a diff. svc. place. We took my '02 TL there when we first got it cause there was a stain on the leather and the guy was willing to take the whole seat out and replace - no questions asked and no trying to mask the problem.
It just became so obvious this weekend when I detailed the doors soo nice then the dash just looks soo bad. Thanks for the reply - just trying to take a quick survey before I call dealer.

DONT TAKE THE ALL CAPS TYPING WRONG..
WELL I HAVE NOTICED THAT ITS NOT BLACK LIKE THE DOORS. LIKE OTHERS HAVE SAID.... ITS DARK GRAY CHARCOAL OR SOMETHING. BUT HEY I DO YOU A QUICK FAVOR.. LET ME TAKE A PIC RIGHT NOW AND POST IT SO U CAN SEE MINE.
I would bring the car back to the dealer and ask them what can be done. THe dash should not be changing colors yet, crap, the car isn't a year old. I haven't noticed this in mine yet however, I just purchased mine 2 weeks ago. Also, i purchased one of those sun shades this weekend to help reduced sunlight beating down on my seats/dash etc. Hopefully, I will have the car tinted in a couple more weeked.

so i guess, yours is WAYY off balance then? or is it like mine. mine as you can see its like barely different... except dust and humidity... lol
If I can catch it on camera it is a train wreck! Looks like an old junkyard car.
the sun should still be good when I get home - you will not believe the faded look - just on the passenger side. I think the color match is OK, it is the dirty faded look that will surprise you.
