Caliper painting help
So I have done many searches and have not come across any black tl type s stock rims with painted calipers in white or silver.
Someone help me before I go buy the paint this week.
I have a nbp tl type s 2008 with stock rims. What color do I paint the calipers
I enitialy wanted black cuz u can't go wrong but I also wanted it to stick out and look good.
Here are my choices someone help before I regret doing a certain color.
Black= can't go wrong but kinda plain
White = I think will look real good but worried how dirty they will look from dust
Silver= same as white
These are the 3. I'm leaning towards white or silver cuz I've seen it on black rims and dang does it look slick. I'm sure it will look good with the stock metallic rims also. Any thoughts?
Also paint them or buy the covers I have seen on some cars that look good? Curious how they stay on though.

Someone agree with me lol.
On another note do I use duplicator at my autozone or the g2 paint in a can.

So sick bro honestly I read your post and already seen ur photos. Your the reason I am going to that. I have a ? For you. What paint did you use and how do you get the sticker (brembo) to stay. Also how was mounting the brembo fake caliper in the back. About to order those now. I need the med 9 inch ones correct?
Anyways thanks so much and man your car looks beautiful.
Does the white get dirty real quick?

you'll get a base coat and a top coat. i also purchased a clear coat spray as well.
remove calipers, sand down, clean thouroughly. spray 2-3 coats base coat, 2-3 coats top coat, and 2-3 coats clearcoat. you will want to apply the brembo decal BEFORE you use clearcoat. just spray clear on top of it.
for the rear caliper covers, they were a pain in the ass...the only contact point between the caliper and the cover is the slide rail on the OEM caliper. i used a combination of JB weld, marine grade sealant, and super glue to get them to stick on. they are on good though...no chance of falling off. i got the largest ones they make on eBay, i think you're correct...9 inches.
the white surprisngly doesn't get too dirty. i put a layer of high temp paint sealant on my wheels and calipers and the brake dust/road grime comes right off with one swipe of a microfiber.

Thanks I couldn't find that paint on the site in that color. I think I am going to try the g2 white paint. Now I just need to figure out how I am going to mount this fake brembo caliper cover or what glue will work for me. Thanks again for all the advice.

Can somebody do a good DIY write up of this with clear pictures? I have been searching high and low looking for good pictures to help build my confidence, but I can't find anything. I just want to reprint mine black! I would prefer to take them off the car, but I'm not sure what is involved as far as bleeding the lines is concerned. It's this a complicated procedure?

1) Take off wheels, steering wheel towards the side you want to paint.
2) take out pads/pins, spring
3) Spray your caliper down with brake cleaner
4) Sand down your caliper. (suggest sanding sponges.) You don't need to take the paint off, just scuff up the surface and remove any gunk.
5) blow of and wipe down caliper to remove dust
6) slip plastic bag over rotor. You can pull it around through the caliper.
7) tape up the opening of the caliper to protect pistons.
8) Use plastic sheeting to block off your fender and wheel well.
9) paint in thin coats moving the spray quickly. If you're doing certain colors, hitting with black or white first helps cover more quickly.
10) wait to dry
11) apply decals
12) clear coat
13) wait to dry
14) reassemble pads, etc
15) wait to dry
16) put your wheels back on.
Main things to screw up on are spraying too thick- it'll run and trying to skimp on letting coats dry- only 10min or so, longer before decals, and as long as you can before putting wheels on. Paint will be soft and scratch super easy at that stage. Masking isn't hard.

i did mine in white about 3 months ago using the g2 paint kit...the duplicolor is much less quality and the g2 paint is holding up really well. my calipers don't get that dirty with the stoptech pads i have on the front.
i did the brush on kit since i didn't want to remove my calipers, so it's not the cleanest job but good enough for me. i'll post some pics when i get home. i also have links to good sized brembo stickers as well (ebay)

you don't HAVE to have clear on the calipers to keep the decal on. the clearcoat just gives the paint a little extra *pop* and helps protect the finish.
i would go ahead and use clearcoat tho...and make sure you get the same brand as the paint you are using. i've seen some different types of clear used with adverse effects.

I didn't use any clear coat. Once the G2 paint dries its very glossy. Just make sure you don't stick the decal on too soon, I made that mistake and had to put another coat on. I can't remember exactly how long I waited but I want to say about 45 min.? And even then I probably could have waited a little longer.

Thanks guys. I just rec my order of the fake brembo covers for the rears of my acura tl type s like the ones justnspace has in the above pictures. Here is the link to ebay for the ones I got. I may have ordered 2 big of a size. They are the same size or bigger then the fronts. What's your guys thoughts? Do I need the smaller ones? These are about 9 inches.

Looks awesome Double Dee. I'm assuming you used the brush on kit? Did you use the supplied brushes, or your own? Some reviews I've seen read say that the brushes are crappy and you end up pulling bristles out as you paint.
