cabin air filter location?
I have not ordered my shop manual for the TL yet, and was wondering
if anyone knew where the cabin air filter is located?
I looked under the hood, and did not see any signs of it, but I dont think I removed all those annoying covers, kust the one on the pasengers side.
Is it located inside the car?
I really wish manufacturers would make the parts look better and do away with all
the plastic covers they seem to have to use.
I suppose the covers are only for looks, and hold heat in.
With a bit of attention, I think they could make things look nice instead of
covering everything up with plastic covers.
From memory, the honda did not have covers, and the covers must be
an Acura thing to make the motor look upscale.

you should have done a search and you also should use the 3G TL Garage. It has a lot of the general info about the TL. Anyway, it' can be accessed by removing the glove box. Here's a link to a DIY.

The only cabin filter I can find is Bosch P3600, is it OK and anyone tried that before?
As for air filter, the only OEM replacement I can find is STP SA9600. Is it good or should I stick with Acura's filter. My dealer lists stock filter for 27.50!
Thanks!

Cabin Filter Location for 2nd Gen or 3rd Gen?

Answer: Cabin Filter is located inside the vehicle behind the passenger glove compartment. Is this a 2nd Gen or 3rd Gen TL??
If this is a 3rd Gen TL (2004 +) then this is the Acura part number that you are looking for 80292-SDA-A01 ELEMENT, FILTER . Click on link for schematic diagram.
http://www.acuraparts247.com/sunnyside/jsp/prddisplay.jsp?inputstate=5&catcgry1=TL&catcgry2=2 005&catcgry3=4DR+BASE&catcgry5=HEATER+BLOWER&ListA ll=All&vinsrch=no

Answer: It is not located under the hood like in VW or Euro type of vehicles.

Answer: Yes, it is located behind the passenger glove compartment.
I really wish manufacturers would make the parts look better and do away with all
the plastic covers they seem to have to use.
Answer: Acura wishes to give the car a more refined look, so plastic covers help with the upscale look as well as protecting internal components. Could be other possible reasons such as noise dampening.
I suppose the covers are only for looks, and hold heat in.
With a bit of attention, I think they could make things look nice instead of
covering everything up with plastic covers.
Answer: You have to talk to Acura customer service about that one.
From memory, the honda did not have covers, and the covers must be
an Acura thing to make the motor look upscale.
Answer: It's part of the reason for the covers but I believe noise dampening is another reason.

ATP makes a cabin filter that is carbon coated to remove odors, the particulate filters just remove dust, pollen, etc. The original Acura filter is just a particulate filter.

In my Honda Accord, it's behind the glovebox. You might look there. They are some buttons on the side of the glovebox with the door open and the glovebox pulls out. Just a thought.

The cabin (called pollen) filter for the TL is a real bitch to change. You have to completely remove the glove box and the glove box housing to get to it. Be prepared to bust a tab or two in the process, as well as the little plastic push pins.
When I bought my replacement a few months ago at my local Acura parts department, the man behind the counter told me that when the mechanics get a TL in for its first cabin filter change, the cut the rear of the housing out in order to have easy access to the filter door in the HVAC housing. This sounds like a great idea to me and something I will probably do myself the next time I have to change my filter and the first time I change my wife's '05 TL.
Believe me, this is NOT a good design at all and a real pain in the butt job to do.

all you do is poush the 2 pins in, when then let you remove the tabs
give the box a little pull and the entire thing comes down without breaking it, all you need to be careful of is the 2 harnesses that are attached,1 for the trunk lock and the other for the light

To rbf351;
I only wish mine was that simple (late '04 model). It was really in there. And apparently, the techs at Pohanka seem to think so, too. I would imagine another reason the cut the back of the housing out is that it simplifies changing the filter the next time.
But good for you if yours is that easy to change out.

Hey Ron.. is that a pun or what??
Seriously, if deandorsey has found a super way around this pain-in-the-butt job, I would love to hear it. This is NOT a fun task.

But you are right about looking for a short cut, because I am getting close to the filter change time. Actually, the main thing that bothers me is getting the hook of the glove box damper off of the pin it's attached to, and then the two glove box stops. After that it looks like it's not too hard.
Maybe he cut the back out of the glove box, which some people suggested, to get to the filter.

The pictures may not be as colorful as those in the link you gave, but they are pretty clear with good explanations.

you know i had the camera w/ me to, and i didn’t take any pics, because it was so simple....and i figured the post would get buried in p&p just like my pad install thread ..lol j/k
what was the problem with getting this done? ill do it again and take pics this weekend for you guys.
but for the time being….
start pulling from the side..the whole lower plastic surround is just attached by metal clips...it pulls right off, and snaps right back on...
once its off, filter is right behind it...EASY!
