C-Fiber Roof (& Side Mirrors?)

got a 3g wdp and going to be wrapping my roof in cf film and contemplating doing the side mirrors too; just mirror housing or possibly whole panel. either way...what do u guys think--yay or gay on the side mirrors? dont care what u think about the roof...doing it anyway

Looks very good. Mirrors would look good as well. CF/black works well on a lighter color car, not so much on a darker one.

roof - yay

mirrors - nay too big for carbon fiber, if they were smaller I'd be more for it.

yea, as stated, it's wdp. i would've never considered doing this otherwise. altho i have seen someone with a black m3 who did their roof in white cf wrap...sounds like a recipe for disaster but it was sick looking...certainly stood out among the crowd

Not on the mirrors. Kinda like the roof. Def like black roof on white cars. This comes from the guy that when I find a TLS, Im putting 04 base mirrors, tails, and sidemarkers on it lol

3M has advised this to be a permanent change. My guess is it will peel a lot of paint off. It sticks well when heated and is not designed to be removed. I would do the roof first and then decide on the mirrors later. Of course if your mirrors are bashed up at all, it doesn't matter, do em.

Be careful who is doing the roof and make sure it gets wrapped and cut very carefully. It just needs that extra special detailed time to do a good job.

I think it would look great. http://www.carztune.com/wp-content/u...erformance.JPG

Look at that E90. It looks great on it. I am sure it would look great for your TL. 3M is not permanent. We applied 3M vinyl CF on my friends 135i and took it off a year later and no damage.

Plasti Dip will not look good. Its dull and matte. I hate it on my grille. What you can do is use it as primer and apply black paint on it and see if you like it or not.

Why not just have them wrapped in real carbon fiber. The BMW in the link looks nice because it's real carbon with a polished gloss finish. The 3m Di-Noc vinyl matte finish is just a fad right now. Matte/satin finish was the biggest thing at the last SEMA show, but only because you never saw it before. It looks nice because it's the new thing, but it will soon be old and busted. Of course at least you can peel it off if you get sick of it.

pretty certain it will be done by the end of this week (can't wait to post pics!). fyi - for anyone looking into carbon fiber vinyl wrap, 3m has a new version of their cf vinyl line (better than di-noc). it's supposedly more specific to vehicle wrap applications. anyways, regarding an e90 with cf wrap on it...here's one, and i think it looks pretty sick.

Yes there is a cf edition u can get that has a cf roof and front lip but that is not on this car. this particular m3 was wrapped in cf film. It was directly stated as being so. Nonetheless...looks badass

Please no. It will look like the sun has eaten away the clear coat on your roof.

Your altered TL picture looks good, John. Based on that, I'd say go ahead. Be sure to do the front grill too.

^^nice! that's the look i'm going for. i have wdp as well. what did you do to paint the front air dam? just remove it and paint it flat black? whatever u did...it looks geat .

anyway, my roof & pillars are getting done right now--the jury is still out on the side mirrors. last i saw they were laying the wrap across the roof and i think it's gonna turn out looking sharp. the material i purchased is the new 3m scotchprint 1080 cf wrap...it looks badass. it's fully textured as well--like the di-noc, however the new scotchprint 1080 is supposedely better suited for forming to tight contours and overall vehicle wrapping applications. can't wait till i'm out of the office today and get to go pick it up!

i'll post pics this afternoon

i bought way more than enuf to do them if i so choose to. i kinda went overboard and bought like half a roll . i get an awesome deal on that stuff so no biggie. i also bought a non-painted deck lid spoiler that i will be wrapping as well...it goes great with the cf roof. i'm stealing the idea from some m3's i've seen done with the same setup. since i'm doing the cf deck lid spoiler too i'm slightly hesitant to do the side mirrors but we'll see--certainly want to keep it to a minimum. i can do the side mirrors and spoiler myself so i'm not worried about that. the roof however...i wasn't even going to attempt that. i'll let the experts take that one.
