Bye Bye Ressonators

I woke up inspired, drove to Buford Hwy to some whole in the wall shop, told the guy to lift the car and showed him from where to where I wanted him to cut and replace with a straight pipe. So now instead of 5 thigs choking the car I have 3. Took 2 ressonators off. NOw I have the cat, a long straight pipe, and 2 mufflers ( one on each side of the Y.

Sound very very good. Not loud at all, but with a sweet little tone to it. If someone noticed how the BoxterS sounds, that is what I am talking about..

Call me crazy!

Now I am aiming for a drop. Butler Tires can get me 2 drops: 1 (F&B) or 2/2.5, which I think is too much.. The car is so low already.. 1.00 will look good with black 5 think spoke 19s..

Alright, critics.. Bring it on !!!!!!

MFEIJO,

How much louder is it really? Do you notice any other vibration in the car?
Do you notice any performance improvement? Also, do you have a 5AT or 6MT?

Thank you,

Yeah, I took pics, but can't get it to the computer.I can't find my cable to the digital camera and can't donwload otherwise from my T616 !!!

It got louder just enough.. Hard to explain.. It is noticeable on 3500rpm.. I like the tone of it.It sound diferent.. Not only louder..

Not sure if it is faster, but it sure took resistance out of the output, now whehn I put my K&N, or a CAI, then it will be a better flow altogether..

I think a lot of us would love to know how it sounds and performs. Any chance you can post sound clips or vids?

Put it on a dyno and you can be A-TL king for the day!

I'd be interested to know how it affects (improves) your gas mileage! That should be some indication of the reduction of the restriction.

here are the pics..

I can tell you the mileage showing on the trip computer. will do that when I get home at night.
hare are some horrible pics taken with the T616. That is about all I have in pics. one shows the section that I had cut off and the other shows the straight pipe welded in place.

WHere can I get the car dyno'd? Is it expensive?

You're in Atlanta. You can go to Dynolab, where Temple of VTEC gets theirs done. It's in Marietta. Don't know how much it costs, though.

hey, where do you frequent in atl.. wonder if I can meet up with ya during lunch or something and hear it. sounds like it could be pretty killer on this car if it doesn't get tinny in the mufflers.

Your MIL hasn't come on yet to indicate any change in the computer freaking out has it ?

Sounds like a good deal. Other than possible messing with your warranty and possibly messing with the computer there is no harm. Its amazing these car run as good as they do when there all stuffed up like that. They need to breath in and out to run their best. You should notice a little diffrence in the mid to top range.

To avoid a DUI by having my girlfriend driving back frolm bars and such, I had to have it 6AT. Not a day I think about those brembos and the 6th speed.. But sometimes we need to compromise.. SO the answer is 6AT.

I am trying to have it dyno'd tonight.. so I can compare everytime I make a mod!

I'll post results.

Sherlock, I'll have it dyno'd soon at www.dynolab.com that would be a good opportunity for you and other from town to hear it and tell me what they think, as well as get together and show their rides..

I am trying to get it done tonight but so far could not talkt othem to make sure they will be open and all. I'll post something here this afternoon if I am able to talk to them.

HEY! Got it all setup to have it tested tonight. It may be a ig disapointment because this car had a lot of early problems, as one can see reading my early threads..
Anyway it will burn tonight at www.dynolab.com. I wil be there around 5:30 to 6, and I don't know when I'l leave as it is first come first served basis. 50$ for the test..not bad!
If someone wants to meet me there that would be a good chance to show our rides..

Not sure if this is good or bad!!!

I've got 210.5 hp on the wheels at 7000 rpm, torque 186.0... Remember it is a 5AT. The tranny eats some 20%, but I still find it very low.

If this sounds very wrong let me know.. I'm thinking maybe my car is still bad..

Some people wanted to see pics of my engine without all the plastics.. here it is. this is how I have it..

I saw TOV site has 5AT 212.07 hp and 190.5 lb-ft. Am I right?

And, thanks for posting.

212hp and 206ftlbs. Same dyno, but certainly a different day with different conditions.

well, I don't think I am that off then.. because today was as hot as it can be, and everyone at thew shop was talking about how that lowers the numbers.. I wonder how were the conditions when 212 came up..

Correction!

I quoted a bad torque number! :o Sorry for posting bad data! The sheet says a peak of 206, but it must be an anomaly because the graph shows torque around 190 from 3000 to 5500 rpm.

Sounds like the second readings are pretty close to those of the first run. The first run was in February, so it was definitely cooler then.

Wow that is 60hp lost to the wheels. I was hoping for 220hp at least. However, a Cold Air Intake should solve that problem!!! Way to go for testing out your car and sharing with us all!!! Cheers bud!!!

Hey man just want to ask u a question
for 60 bucks u do the job, what kind of material did u use and did u measure how long is our pipe
thanks
nice dyno, you are fine with the data because i think AEM or INjen has a dyno of the stock car with out anything and it shows 202 hps on the wheel and 180 range for the torque so u are good with the choice haha

well another question, maybe u guys will not like this or think i am crazy too but i wont let a potential car not to gain performance haha. I am planning to do the same thing but instead change the whole piping from cats to the muffler to 2.5 inch and i hope it will flow much better, since i jacked my car up and realize the piping get very small after the cats to the muffler. hhaah Maybe after that mod Comptech will have the header and downpipe combo along with the high flow cats..
anyways good finding for cutting out the resonator.

If you increase the pipe size, your car will flow a little better at highspeed but you will lose a little low end torque tho. Losing the cat is illegal but will probably gain around 5-15hp easy. I did that to my Type R for a month just to see how the car runs without a cat. I was pretty happy with the results. Hence I had headers/Performance Muffler/Intake so that probably help the higher gain without the cat. In results, I had sparks coming out from the muffler whenever the engine was rev-ed up. Just thought I share my previous experience w/out the cat. Cheers dude!!

Yeah, I can't find anywhere in ATL where they will cut the cat out. ( I tried, for recreational purposes only, of course.. ) They are really strict around here.

THanks for the info about other stock measurings. Do you know the link where I can find that data?

About lenght of pipe, I don't know it. They measure it as they build it.
