Buying used TL, what to check
Hi all, I am buying a used TL and not sure where to post this question.
I have found a 2007 TL base that I am interested in purchasing. The car has 44,000 miles and I've negotiated the price to 15k with the dealership (its not a Acura dealer).
The question I have is what should I check on this TL to make sure it is in good condition.
I got the carfax and some things worry me.
The car was first purchased with a Lien Reported in 2007 (dealer says its because it was a lease)
Then in 2010 car was reported at auto auction
it says 'Auction Announced as FLEET/LEASE'
This dealer tells me that it was a leased car, but why does it say 'fleet'?
Also should I buy the used car from an Acura dealership instead of another type, so I can get a warranty, certified and things like that?

Do you realize the retail value for that car is $22k?? If there is nothing obviously wrong with it, the type of things you would look for when buying any car than I would buy it on the spot. If it is still there after a few days than there is probably something wrong with it.
It says FLEET/LEASE, meaning it was one of the two, probably a lease as I am not sure why a TL would be a fleet vehicle, and there is nothing wrong with lease vehicles as they have to be kept in good condition.

I bought my '07 TL 3 months ago with 90,000 for 14,995 and that was a steal in my opinion. So again, if there is obviously nothing wrong with it, it is a steal. I paint for a living and know what to check for collision wise so I would definitely recommend doing that. Look at all the jambs for the VIN sticker(every jamb should have one), check for trash in the paint, color match, check the hinges and hinge bolts, and remember just because something is not listed on the carfax does not mean it did not happen. I would not worry about the lien situation as that just means it was financed most likely and was probably repossesed and sold at the auction. Mine had the same situation and it is in awesome condition, even the leather looks brand new on all seats.
