Smile buying a TL S-type

I have a question...

I'am planning on purchasing a TL S-Type in the near future...But am kinda confused on what the car actually comes with...

I know its a loaded TL with navi and the bigger engine...

the dealer tolded my that its fulled loaded and the only options are really cosmetics...Like for instance...carbon fiber console and steering wheel..A-Spec skirt package...18" rims...

Is this true that all upgrades are cosmetics?

thanks

From Acura, yes. You should save your money and get it from other places. To upgrade from the dealer is way too expensive.

So bascily....the TL S-type is a fully loaded all the bells and whistles...but the only difference is the engine for the normal TL?

no, there are some more differences. There is a list somewhere around here. but to name a few.... 1. exhaust system 2. red gauges instead of blue 3. stiffer suspension 4. type-s wheels 5. two-tone interiors with type s badging 6. fog lights 7. side-bolstered seats 8. medal pedals 9. type s spoiler 10. body flaring 11. noise cancellation 12. some carbon fiber on the interior. 13 paddle shifters...................
of course the engine too
not sure what else. i'm sure there are more

Also:

Upgraded Brakes (Larger Rotors Front and Rear and Brembo 4-piston caliper on the front).

Quad Exhaust

Improved flow Air Intake and Exhaust (factory "CAI" and "Catback")

Smoked Tail lights and Side markers.

I think ANC, paddle shifters, and fog lights are on both the Type S and non-Type S for '07/'08.

All this from the dealer? I was also told that it was just cosmetics.

BTW - Acura doesn't do "options". They release a model (like the TL) and then have a few trim levels (Base, Navi, Type-S). The "base" starts out "loaded". The other trim levels typically add specific features - like Navi or Sport-Tuning/Styling like the Type-S.

Any "options" are Dealer installed OEM add-ons - like A-Spec Kits, Upgraded Wheels, Interior Trim, Revese Sensors, etc.

Go to acura.com and "build" a TL and/or TL-S and you'll see what's avialable.

Thanks. Did not realize that.

ANC also is correctly listed as only Type-S. Sorry.

If you are talking about the upgraded Chrome Rims (18" front and 19" rear) they are a hella expensive option, about $3k. Not worth it IMO.

If you are talking about the 17" GunMetal color aluminum wheels, they don't really do it for me. I'm not a big fan. I think aftermarket 17" chromes are the way to go.

Type

Yes, that is how I understand it. Cosmetics is quite an issue with this car, if you ask me. I have driven TLs since 1999 and have an 04 now. I really like the TL-
Type S features except for one thing. I absolutely would not be able to stand the car with the standard black chrome wheels. They are absurdly bizarre and drag this finely made and fairly sophisticated car down to the boy racer tuner car level. I would like to fire the entire TL design team for that muckup! I after buying 10 Honda cars, I am sorely tempted to buy an Infinit M35.

Don't ... and I repeat .. don't fall to the dark side ... LOL

except for the quad pipes ... the M or G shape just doesn't excite me from the Infinity lineup ... just MHO though ...

I recently purchased a TL Type S and all of the differences you noted are there. I must also point out that the suspension has had quite an upgrade from the normal TL. A good friend owns a regular TL and I have driven it. My new car does a much better job in the curves...it stays almost flat in very aggresive cornering. Acura calls it a "sport tuned suspension". Further Acura says "A racing inspired double wishbone front suspension system helps maximize tire to pavement contact. In the rear, a multi-link suspension system mimics the high performance benefits of the double-wishbone design. but also features a geomety that helps deter rear end lift during braking. Both the front and rear spring rates on the Type S are stiffer and the shocks offer greater damping force. And when the road bends the TL Type S easily maintains the stability and flat cornering stance with substantial 27mm front and 20mm rear stabilizer bars."

Also don't forget that you can get the 6 speed manual tranny as an option on this car. And the seats have more aggressive side bolsters to help hold you in when pushing the car hard.

I love this car! But it's not for everybody. If you want a nice smooth ride with shocks that soak up the bumps this may not be for you. The steering feels stiffer as well as the accelerator pedal and the suspension. You have to drive this car...it does not do it for you. But if you have the need for speed and handling like I do it's worth a test drive at least!
