Buy: 05 or 06 TL...and why?

Hey everyone...Just wondering which you would pick...05 or 06 TL. And why. What is different between the two? Thanks for any input!

Actually, there are some other subtle difference...
- the airbags emblem is lot nicer.
- Extra stitch in the seat bottom to minimize "butt prints"
- Newer Nav disc
- and there some upgraded things in the engine and suspension...

These are trivial things though, of the price is significantly more on 06, go for the 05.

saint,

If you can afford the '06, go for the car with the latest, greatest.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the feedback. I would prefer the 06...but i'm getting desperate for a car and there just happened to be an 05 for dirt cheap. I just found another 06 though...so we'll see.

Thanks again for the input!!

Expanding what Kennedy was saying- for 06- they put some kind of torque steer management control system. Not sure if this is what it is called but you get the idea.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

And I think that was a software change applied only to the 6-speed manuals, not the 5AT versions.

The extra row of seat stitching (compared to the '04) was added from '05-onwards.

I'd get the one in the best condition and felt best while driving.

these changes were made to the 05+ TL's, the 04's do not have these fixes in them.

The 06 TL differs from the 05 in these ways:
TPMS
Torque management system to prevent torque steer
newer navi disk (can be bought for the 05 too)
Newer car

I thought I heard that the fuel maps were changed for less torque in the first two gears. Is that true?

the ecu logic was changed to reduce output in the first to gears, ANX1300 (not sure of the exact username) mentioned the exact specs for it.

It only affects power delivery when the steering wheel is turned; straightline performance is still the same. Depending on how much the wheel is turned, according to sensors, the ecu limits torque in 1st gear from 12-27% and second gear from 0-10%.

Hey guys...last night I purchased my new 06 TL black on black with navi. She has 21k miles. I'm pretty excited. It drives really nice and the stereo is ridiculous! Here are some pics. Thanks again for helping me with my decision!

Now I need to look into that Key "mod." Any other suggestions for changes?

There is a difference in the stereo between 04-06, 07-08, I think. Any comments?

I pulled my stock '05 sub and compared it to a 07-08 sub, the '05 looks way better. About 4-5 times as heavy, looks like a real subwoofer vs the wimpy 07-08. Both are stamped 40 watts though.

I've always been pleased with the stock system, but still wanted a little more bass so I'm custom mounting a 8" kicker.

Congrats on the new purchase! Looks nice. Now we should let you in on how these things go...

First you browse the forum in the general tl forum, next is is on to the sub forums where you gather ideas.

Then you go to the picture forum and want your tl to look/ features like others.

By this time you are on acurazine about 13 hours a day hitting the refresh button.

Next thing you know your tl is dropped on 19s with a supercharger and 4 12s, screens everywhere and you are broke.

Then you venture over to rambling and get groped by Whiskers.

what would be a great price when looking at an 05 tl w/ nav and about as many miles as Saintv's car?

2004 radio is configured to use the rear speakers as filler sound and the fronts for the main soundstage no matter the souce. The 2005+ has a better calibrated radio where the sound from the speakers are more equal. The 2006 TL got blue-backlighting on the radio/HVAC display screen on the non-navi models. In 2007+ models, ANC, Dolby Pro Logic II and mp3/wma was added. The non-navi models from 2007+ got a nicer radio display, compass and had no ANC
