Burnouts Are Fun....
Ive got the auto trans in my TL and with the VSA off I can do about a 6 foot long
posi bunout by just mashing the gas from a dead stop. Is this the norm for all TLs?

can't do it anymore in my TL-S with my Proxes4. They grip too well..... more speed for me. I could go forever with the stock tires though. I would still get wheel spin at 60mph sometimes.

Just smashing the gas to the floor and spinning the wheels doesn't stress it any more than smashing it to the floor and not spinning. If it wheel hops while spinning, that's stressful.
My car barely makes a screech from a dead stop. When I went to get new tires, I did pull the e-brake and did a nice burnout to finish off the stock tires.

What comes stock on TL's. When I bought mine it had new tires on it that Im
guessing arent stock. Found the bill in the glove box for em. $750 installed. Are
they good ones?
Sorry if I ask stupid questions, this is the first import Ive ever owened and Ive
been called a gear head in the past but that knowledge of muscle cars and 4x4's.

Does it damage the car? Well, there is a reason that Acura recommends not towing anything with the TL. Holding the handbrake and smoking the tires is equivalent to trying to tow a house. Not recommended. I'll keep an eye out for the "I'm having some weird problems with my transmission. It's an auto and . . . " thread.

Burning out on FWD??? Why? No it doesn't look cool...Waste of rubber anyway even if you have rear wheel (fucking tires cost, unless you buy those cheap shits!)

Think so. Could be wrong. And for those of you who think that FWD burnouts are stupid, they're not, they're fun, just not as fun as RWD. You should try it when you're getting new tires anyways.

I don't recommend doing a burnout until the tires pop and I also agree FWD burnouts look stupid. It's just a ceremony I've always done with my other car when the tires were ready to be replaced so I figured I would do a once in a lifetime burnout in the TL. My stock tires lasted almost 50K miles so I think that's a testament to my normal driving style.
15 seconds of WOT while standing still will only hurt the tires. You're not giving it enough time to heat up the transmission. As long as it's not wheel hopping or doesn't suddenly grab traction, there's probably less stress on the transmission than flooring it and hooking up.

saw something about a limited slip. Could be wrong. Like I said earlier in the
thread this is my first import "ever" Im 32 and until about a month ago Ive had
nothing but Fords, Chevys and Olds.
I was working on the TL for the first time today, changing the oil (Mobile 1) and
dropping in a K&N. I had to buy new tools just to do those minor things 17mm for
the drain plug and 8mm 3/8" drive for the air box. Funny its like being a car newb
all over again. Ive even got a special hollow allen key for the license plate holder.

You are getting pretty constant traction because the computer is playing with the brakes (braking the slipping wheel) to get the best traction it can. The bad part is when it starts to lose ground it also starts to pullout the throttle & reduces power. It also pulls power at the shift point to limit wheel slip on the 1-2/2-3 shifts.
Remember these cars have drive by wire throttles so the throttle opening is what the computer says it wants regardless if your foot is on the floor or not.

if you think that totally kills the car, then try turning your wheel completely to one side, put the car in reverse and floor it. itll probably give you a good tossing.

has probably got better qualified Engineers then some of the Engineers designing
these after market parts that are available. I really dont want to mess with the
car much except adding some personal appearance preferences.
The lack of any exhaust tone whatsoever in stock form has left me wanting though so Ive considered the resonator delete but again am afraid to compromise
engineering since Ive heard of torque loss in other threads. I feel I need to
develope a comfotable complete understanding before I mod anything mechanical
on this car.
