Bumper paint chipping

I just to my car over to the dealer to have them look at my front bumper. About a week ago I noticed the paint bubble up where the bumper meets the quarter panel on the driver side.. This area then flaked off. There is a spot of paint about 2cm long missing from the bumper. When I stopped by on saturday the service guy said "that ain't right" He then took a peek at the other side and it was there on the passenger side in the same spot. I had to go back today so the service manager could take a peek. He quickly went to get a digital camera to send pics to Acura Corp. and said "that ain't right" (I don't know if they teach them that phrase) needless to say, he quickly scheduled an appointment to have the bumper immediately repainted. I only have 2300 miles on the car and no other problems that I have noticed.

Anybody else with this issue

Me too

I had the same problem - paint popped off the bumper side where the bumper meets the front qtrpanel. Dealer said the bumper was not hung correctly so it did not provide enough gap to avoid pressure/vibration/contact. My TL is at the paint shop right now, they are actually replacing the entire bumper. Paint shop had trouble getting new paint to adhere to the old bumper and they advised Acura to replace the bumper rather than spend any more time on the old one. Not had my TL for 1 week now...miss her. Upside is that the chip I had in the front from some foreign object will be gone...until the next flying rock.

Let me know how good a job of repainting the front bumper they do. I had mine repainted due to a small bubble and some black specks, and the color didn't match. The dealer is getting a new bumper from the factory for the body shop to paint. Apparently the primer used at the factory is different enough that after-market painting won't match.

Do you know if replacing the bumper counts against the value of your car? How about repainting? Doesn't all of that information get put into the same database CarFax pulls its reports from?

I do not think so Lore. On my last Integra I was rearended and also frontended while the car was parked in two differentl occassions and they had to replace both the bumpers. It did not show up on the carfax.

Getting a bumper repainted or replaced for a manufacturing defect doesn't get reported. only accident related repairs get reported. I asked the service manager about the color match issue and he said that the white bumpers are always a little off because the paint is slightly different for some reason. He said the blue shouldn't be a problem.

Those with problems, what color is your TL?

I have matching issues with my TL, but the lame "its normal" excuse is not going to work with me. I have yellow bumpers on a white car, and it just is not ok. I have an appointment with the regional factory rep tomorrow

Mine is Anthracite Metallic. Aren't metallic colors harder to match?

My color

Mine is white - and hopefully getting it back today. Will let you know of any problems, but I don't anticipate any color-matching problems with white. Hard to type with fingers crossed!!

Glad I'm not the only one.....

About 3 weeks ago I had my front bumper repainted (Anthracite) because there were 2 spots where the paint had bubbled up and another where the clear coat had flaked off. The body shop did a good job other than leaving some "dust" behind in the grooves and the colors match well.

TODAY, I decided to wax the rest of the car that had not been recently painted so the entire car would be as glossy as the newly painted bumper. I stumbed on a spot where the rear bumper is rubbing against the driver slide tail light and has worn the paint off - about an inch wide. Also during the waxing process I found SEVERAL places where there is trash in the paint albeit small specks but trash nonetheless. Also, there is a run where the bumper meets the drivers rear quarter panel and a (get this) palm print above the driver side rear tire. In short my paint is f**ked up and I am just realizing to what extent at 7.6k miles.

I have an appt. at the dealer on Thurs. to fix a number of rattles and sagging headliner so will bring it up then. This is getting uglier by the day but I LOVE my car................ :rocketwho

Got my car back on monday and it rained all day so I couldn't check out the work; however, I saw my ABP in the sun today and the shop did a great job. I can't see any color difference. I expected a good job as this was the same shop that put humpty dumpty (my CL) back together after close to 11K in damage and it was a great job.

Glad to hear that your car looks good. I have damage on my bumpers. The front bumper is my stupidity while the rear bumper is due to someone hitting me from behind. I have used the touch up paint, but of course it is not like new at all anymore. At least it's good to know that they can match the paint colour well for ABP because I might consider repainting the bumpers in a couple of years.
