Bumper damaged, Repair or just buy a new one?

I damaged my bumper while backing out of the garage. Stupidest mistake I've ever made. Apparently the garage door was still closed when I tried to back out. Stupid me.

Anyways, I went to the dealer and got a quote to get it repaired. There's two dents in the middle of the bumper and one more dent on the bottom of the bumper. They said that it only needs to be smoothed out and repainted, obviously the entire rear bumper.

Dealer cost to repair the bumper by smoothing it out, prime, paint existing bumper: $466.47

I got a quote from a company on ebay that sells painted OEM bumpers and they have a 99.9% positive feedback. They use dupont paint, which from what I understand, is very good quality paint. The cost is $500 and shipping will be roughly 130 so the total cost to get a new one is $630. I figure I could find a local body shop to install the bumper for me which my guestimate shouldn't cost more then 25 bucks?

New bumper including install: $655.

What do you guys think? The car is 2008.

Just get it fixed, that's a very good price, I had a scratch on the lower part of my front bumper and I was quoted for $500 to get it fixed, just for a scratch on the lower part.

I have a similar problem, and i got it fixed (not by the dealer). It's been a year, and it looks like the accident never happened.

If there is no damage to the paint itself I would suggest a local paintless dent repair service

if you are gonna replace.....i would buy the bumper unpainted from acuraoemparts.com for $280, and bring it a body shop. they cant charge ya more then $200 to prime and paint a bumper maybe $250 including installation... your at $480-530

either way , you run a SLIGHT , and VERY SLIGHT risk that the bumper and paint might not match well either repaired OR replaced... it all depends on the body shop... if your car is NBP make sure the dealer/body shop is using the correct amount of orange peel.. i got screwed on my NBP paint job

Thanks for the replies. I guess since it's 466, I'll just get it repaired at the dealer. I thought of buying a bumper but I figure it's a hassle to have to haul it around.

Three dents on the bumper and the paint is scratched up.

i had dents in mine too and the aspec lip covered it..... now if your DIY you can remove the bumper if its not that bad and blaze it with a heat gun and shape it back into place.... I did that for a couple of tl's that have come to my shop and it worked out better than spending the money on fixing it.
