Bumper Damage
Bumper Damage
My two week old TL was rearended tonight--a couple of small dents and scratches in the bumper that don't bother me too much but area immediately under right tail light where bumper meets the quarter panel is popped out about a quarter of an inch. (I have a photo but I don't know how to post it.) Any ideas on how hard and costly it'll be to fix? I've got USAA, BTW.
Two weeks old, no rattles or any other problems, Pilot Sport A/S tires and v710 are working great...now this.
In case you're wondering--I was stopped at a light and guy bumped me. We talked for a minute then he suggested we pull out of traffic to exchange info. He pulled ahead of me and kept going. I got his tag number but the Prince William County police say the tag isn't in the Virginia data base, and I didn't get the state.

You may be able to pop it back in yourself. I had to remove my rear bumper to install the rear underspoiler in the bodykit and the area that popped out on your car is actually held into the fender with "tabs" on the bumper that fit into "slots" in the back of the fender where the 2 pieces meet. Try pulling out the plastic bumper cover slightly to see the tabs I am referring to and you will understand. Good luck with your insurance claim. It's a hit and run of sorts. Do you recognize the lettering on his plate, as in the typeface. You may be able to go online a search the DMV sites for a similar state's plate design, color, and typeface. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I've looked at the instructions for the back up sensors and I think I know what you're talking about. If the car wasn't almost brand new I wouldn't worry about it too much--it was just about perfect before the guy hit me and I'd like it that way again. BTW, I'm thinking that repairing the bumper may give me a chance to get the back up sensors added. I regret not buying them in the first place and this way I'd get something positive out of this.
Good idea on the tags. Type face and colors looked like Virginia, as far as I could tell, but his tag bracket covered up the state name. You'd think PWC or USAA could search 50 databases, though.
