Bulb or Ballast?

My passenger side HID began to flicker randomly on my 2004 TL last weekend. It would usually flicker until the light went out. When I would turn the lights off, and back on; the bulb would turn back on, flicker for a while, then go out again. Now after a couple days of that, the bulb doesn't turn back on anymore. I haven't had time to take the bumper off and swap ballasts/bulbs over yet, but just wanted to check here to see if anyone could identify the problem based on the symptoms. Do bulbs gradually go out, or does it happen instantly?

Also, if it is the ballast -- can I buy an aftermarket ballast that mounts in the stock location? Does anyone make a kit/harness for an aftermarket ballast so I don't have to cut into my OEM wiring?

Thanks in advance!

Those symptoms more of a bulb going bad. Ballasts usually give out right away and stop working... Take the driver side bulb and install it in the passenger headlight see if does the same thing.. if it doesnt than replace the bulbs, if it does you need new ballast. There are not aftermarket ballast that will fit the oem set up. Either get oem ballast, or custom wire an aftermarket ballast.

I appreciate your input! Hopefully I'll catch a break in the weather this week, or find time on the weekend to pull the bumper off and test things out.

And if it's the bulbs I'd recommend KAIXEN D2C replacement HID bulbs.
